I have tried watching the first episode a few times but can't get past 15-20 minutes, what is it about? And is it worth trying again?
If not what else is good to watch?

I think it's a good show but if you've abandoned it several times maybe it's just not for you. Chernobyl was excellent.

It's about a family of criminals who operated in Birmingham in the post - World War 1 era. It's very gritty - maybe it just isn't for you.

This is why I didn't get passed the first episode and I so wanted to like it. I'd heard all the hype and avoided it from the first series due to research for my project and clouding reality.
When I finally did see it I needn't have worried because the similarities to reality are few and very obvious. What on earth is that dialect?

One of the best things that’s been on telly for a long time. Characters are all complex and interesting. Plot twists fantastic. Like a PP poster said, it’s a Birmingham gang family with Gypsy roots. I was like you with it at first but just persevere with the first two episodes and you’ll be hooked!
