For DF 60th DSis and I are arranging a trip to Newcastle for him. Entertainment is sorted, but stuck on where to eat.
Needs to be somewhere that will let us bring our own cake.

He's not too fussy an eater but likes Indian food, however there will be kids there and while mine love curry DSis kids are fussy so not sure if we should go for this option.
(Either way DSis doesn't usually go to Indian restaurants so couldn't suggest a good one anyway)

Budget wise we are looking at middle of the road - even though we will be paying DF is a true Scotsman and hates expense, even when he's not the one paying. However as it's a special birthday we don't want to go cheap.

All suggestions (and cuisines) welcome.

Mam just went to Cote last week and said it was fab. Very central. www.cote.co.uk/restaurant/newcastle/

Dabbawal for Indian food.

Blackfriars is really nice and there's nowhere quite like it for decor/atmosphere. They use local ingredients and theres no children's menu (or wasn't last time we went anyway) but they will make smaller portions of their usual dishes.

If you like burgers then Fat Hippo Underground next to the Theatre Royal does amazing burgers, not too expensive, and they have a kids menu. Have the PB&J burger, it sound rank because it's a burger with peanut butter and bacon jam but I promise you won't regret it.

Trakol in Gateshead. Hands down the best food in the north east.

In second Dabawal for indian street food. It's just off Grey street, by the Theatre Royal.

I also love Akhbars indian. They do a huge naan that comes on a stand

As you like it or revolution de cuba

twirlypoo · 22/09/2019 20:22

Cafe 21, Dobson and Parnell, Miller and carter, Blackfriars.

If you don’t want to be in centre of town, we love Stark’s kitchen on chillingham road.

Enjoy!

I was in revolution de Cuba last week for first time - amazing atmosphere and lovely food - less formal than the ones I’ve recommended!

AnduinsGirl · 22/09/2019 20:24

Blackfriars!

Dabbawal is fab for Indian food and not the usual so even slightly fussy eaters might like it, small plates so don’t have to have a full plate.

FairfaxAikman · 28/09/2019 17:39

Have booked Dabbawal as it's only a few minutes from St James Park so can surprise him after the match. Thanks all.

Let us know what it's like. I may go myself some time if it's that central.
