Nothing mega expensive, budget about £300.

Not interested in an iphone, so no point telling me that I need one. Grin

Needs to have a good camera.

Have had a Huawei P9 Lite for the last few years and I like it but now that it's acting up I fancy a wee change.

I have a Moto and it's good. Battery can last 2 full days (so long as I'm not I. It constantly).

I replaced my iphone with a Moto G6 recently and it's great. £100 outright and £10/mth for the Sim. Wouldn't go back to an iPhone.

I would suggest a Pixel 3a if you can stretch a little, phenomenal phones. But the 4 is due out in three weeks, and you might be able to get a 3a at a knock-down price at that point.

I've got a Huawei 10. It was slightly over your budget (£329) but had great reviews on a couple of techie sites and I'm really pleased with it.

I've had Moto G phones since they came out in 2013 and wouldn't use anything else now. They're so cheap you can easily justify upgrading annually if you want to, but there's absolutely no need because they're workhorses. I currently have the G7 Power and it's excellent. It cost £129 on Giffgaff, unlocked, and if you buy from their website you can pay in instalments contract-free. The phone and my monthly plan together is about £15 (phone will be paid off in a year, I paid £50 deposit). I get (I think) 8gb and unlimited calls and texts for that, free to other GG users.

I sound like an advert but I'm just evangelical Grin

Google Pixel 7a, Samsung Galaxy A54, OnePlus Nord N20, or Motorola Edge Plus.

I second the Moto G range. My kids have G7 power and G6. They are great and withstand a lot of knocks. My husband has Moto G4 which has been going strong for about 6 years now I think. I have a Samsung A22 which I also like (though its quite big). All these available new well under £200 I think or second hand about £50 or so.
