I'm a relative newcomer to Facebook who finally gave in to friends and family and joined. I was just wondering if you post pictures of yourself or allow others to post pictures of you on there. If you don't, what are your reasons why(other than just not liking a particular photo).

Yes to both.

Because I can’t think of a single valid reason not to as I am not a spy and don’t have anything to hide from anyone.

Tend to just be nights out, old photos that crop up on birthdays etc.

I couldn’t care less if someone could use this I got to extrapolate enough info to potentially steal my identity as I really can’t be arsed living my life in a state of anxiousness about something (one of the many things in life) that could, but probably won’t, happen.

Well that's pretty much what I think @Newsheet I've just been made aware that some people don't like it and wondered why.

I'm not on FB anymore. I am very private and was careful about what I revealed online due to past experience with a stalker and also having abusive family members who I didn't want knowing my whereabouts, details etc. I eventually went down the route of having a fake name and a cartoon profile picture although I was reported to FB for violating its terms. I didn't allow friends to tag me.

There are unfortunately still pictures of me on FB via other people. If I Google my name, my work FB page has a biog of me and pictures as well as timetables so not hard for a stalker to know what nights I work and show up. I've also got pictures on there from my hobbies which were taken mid action. Even my church has put up pictures and videos of me I didn't know were being taken. All of these places are aware of the safeguarding issues around me and the police advice I was given but in all truth, no one gives a fuck. Likes are more important than safety or privacy.

I don't post personal stuff. Usually just places I've visited, share posts from my hobby Facebook page etc. You can stop others tagging you in posts in settings.

NameChange84 · 22/09/2019 09:51

Forgot to say, despite knowing there are safeguarding issues friends from hobbies etc still use my full name in posts even though I'm not on FB.

So "fab win tonight with Jane Smith, Mary Jones and NameChange84. Next comp 7.30pm on 3rd October at the London Institute. Anyone can come along as a spectator so please be there and show your support."

Even though I'm not on FB, if you type in my name into the search part, these kind of posts come up in the search results. It's how I've been tracked down before.

Totally personal preference and definitely no right or wrong way to use Facebook. Be respectful of other people's views and don't post their picture or names or tag then if they don't want that. Simpless

ScreamingValenta · 22/09/2019 09:55

I'm not on FB but I have appeared in a few group photos (normally uploaded there and then, with the person expressing regret that they can't 'tag' me). It doesn't bother me. I'm not on FB because I don't like all the nonsense that seems to come along with it, rather than from a wish to keep my activities (such as they are - not very exciting) private.

Summersunshine2 · 22/09/2019 09:57

I'm on Facebook but not a regular poster. I'm just not into it that much!
I also like a bit of privacy. Also I'm not very photogenic Blush
As the DC grow up they don't want their pictures on it so fair enough.
My DS has had friends get his toddler pics off the internet and make fun of them. He finds it funny but I can see others wouldn't.
@NameChange84 that's awful. Please call them out on it everytime and ask them to remove you!
