Those of you who make macarons, where do you buy your ground almonds from? I’ve heard it’s a lot cheaper to buy online and get larger packs. I’ve seen some packs on Amazon for about £14 per kg but is that the best price?

Also what about natural food colouring powder? Where’s the best place to get it from?

Indian / Pakistani / Turkish Cash and Carries. Ground almond powder can often be really cheap because in those communities people prefer to grind their own. Can often get deals for £14/2kg etc

I’ve not bought online but have from Aldi/Lidl - then also used the food processor to make finer.

I use gels as the colour is more predictable and I used to make sugar flowers so have a stock of it. It’s not like the supermarket gel. Haven’t used the powders so can’t help there,

Ooh thanks for the tip on the cash and carries @Teddybear45, that hasn’t even occurred to me.

I’ve got a set of Sugarflair gel colours that I usually use for colouring cakes so could give those a try to see how they work. I had a macaron making course as a birthday present a few months ago and they said the natural powders were better but happy to give the gels a try.
