Tips for weaning

I'm a first time mum and my baby is 5 months old so now starting to think about weaning..

But it's a minefield! Where do I even start? I've read that pouches and jars etc are full of sugar and not recommended for everyday use.

Can anyone share some tips so I know where to start? Smile

Have a look in the weaning section, under "Feed the world". Been a while since I was doing it, but helped me massively 13 years ago!

My single bit of advice is don't worry about it too much.

I very clearly remember weaning DC1 and massively over thinking it and using pouches just to try and get anything into her.

DC2 is only 15mo and I can't remember weaning her, she just got extra of whatever I had made for DC1, if she ate it, great, if she didn't, well I was too busy with 2 under 3 to worry about it tbh.

Out of the two of them DC2 is the far better eater as she's just had to lump it whereas DC1 was pandered to as we were worried she wasn't eating enough and she definitely favours sweeter, uniform (same pasta shapes etc), smoothly textured food as a result,

The truth is some babies eat a lot, some don't. Until they are around 12 months old any solid food is just a bonus not a life or death necessity and it can only ever be beneficial for children to eat as part of a family and eat buts of what they see the rest if their family eating.

It's also very good for their hand eye co-ordination to pick up individual peas with their fingers to eat them and keeps them busy for ages [grun]
