Can adults get their feet measured?

I've been the same big standard shoe size since primary school but recently shoes just keep hurting my feet and I'm really struggling to find anything really comfortable and I keep getting rubbed heels and it's making me miserable. Tried getting DH to draw round my feet at home but not sure we are doing it right?

Will I look ridiculous going in to somewhere like Clark

Ecco shoes don’t fit me, my feet are too wide/ instep much too high. Just had a look at hotter - I think I’d look more stylish in the M&S slippers!

SimpleAndPlanned · 20/09/2019 22:24

@AJPTaylor can you just book an appointment or do you need to see your GP first?

I am not sure if getting your feet measured is helpful because all brands are slightly different so it’s really a matter of trying on lots of different shoes to find something comfortable.

@Notcontent that's the thing. I do that! I search high and low and think I've found something. Wear it for a few days and then have issues again Sad

Clarks do, had mine done there (admittedly a few years ago now so might have changed!)

SparkyBlue · 20/09/2019 22:55

@SimpleAndPlanned thank you for posting this. I was wondering was I going insane but I just cannot get comfortable in shoes or boots these days. I was previously a person who could walk for miles in heels. I think after my second pregnancy my feet just went weird. These days I often look down at my feet with a feeling of despair.

Do high arches mean that the top of your foot is very tall, or that the sole of your midfoot is a long way off the floor?

My feet are a nightmare too.

If you don't want Sketchers, how about Ecco or Hotter

😱sketchers are much cooler then Ecco or Hotter?

Memory foam sketchers are amazing. Had mine a year and still going strong.

Ginfordinner · 20/09/2019 23:08

I have never had a problem with Sketchers Redchocolate

nancy75 · 20/09/2019 23:12

AppleKatie I’m truly sorry to break the news, but Sketchers (comfortable as they may be) are not much cooler than anything.
I have made my Dd promise that the day I buy a pair of Sketchers will be the day she pushes me under a bus & puts me out of my misery Grin

AwdBovril · 20/09/2019 23:12

I wore size 5 until about 5 years ago... until Clarks measured me (the saleswoman gave me one look & said I definitely wasn't a 5). Am in fact a 2.5 - 3, depending on the style. And yes, the first pair she brought out was the type with the doll in the heel! Blush Shoes feel a lot more comfortable now I wear the right size. I also have very high arches. Sale time in shoe shops is either fantastic, lots of bargains, or absolutely nothing, there never seems to be an in-between where there are just several varying styles available.

saveallyourkisses · 20/09/2019 23:15

@SimpleAndPlanned I had shoes with a toy in the sole and a magic key! I had really considered that I may have created them with my imagination as whenever I've mentioned them as an adult people look at me like I'm being odd, but you've reaffirmed that they existed 😂

SimpleAndPlanned · 20/09/2019 23:30

@SparkyBlue yes! Another one in the same boat! I buy so many shoes other people make look really comfy and I hate them all!

@saveallyourkisses it was always so magical getting your feet in the machine then getting a key shoe. Then watching your Mum get conned in to buying all the protection stuff!

I think in order of "coolness" or lack of...

Sketchers
Ecco
Hotter

Why oh why are there so few adult shoe shops?!

Skechers have a great shop in Guildford and they have some really lovely trainers and shoes I've never seen before .. def more cool than hotter 😬😬... although I can't vouch for their comfort .

CeeceeBloomingdale · 21/09/2019 07:09

Deichmann have shoe measuring devices un the childrens department but they have adult sized ones there too. It's self service. I have a measuring thing I bought for the kids that I use to check myself. I like in trainers, reebok classics are pretty comfy.

BikeRunSki · 21/09/2019 07:24

If shoes fit to start with, then you have issues, it sounds like you might have collapsing arches and need arch support insoles. See a podiatrist, yiu can make appointments to see one privately without GP referral.

redchocolatebutton · 21/09/2019 07:36

have you tried gabor or ara shoes?

TowerRingInferno · 21/09/2019 08:11

Hotter will measure your feet in some shops. I’ve found their service very hit and miss - beyond fabulous in some stores, dire in others (nothing in between).

Their shoes are hideous but, sadly, are the only ones that fit my feet.

SimpleAndPlanned · 21/09/2019 08:42

@redchocolatebutton I have had Gabor shoes in the past when I had a more formal job for work. Fugly but comfy!
