Please bear with me.

Due to circumstances out of our control, we lost our privately rented accommodation five months ago. We live in the middle of nowhere for context.

We've been living with my MIL since whilst desperately looking for accommodation but that's like hens teeth around here. We have two small children under 3. MIL isn't well (not terminal) and she said to me today that we can't live there anymore; she can't handle the noise and space we take up (we're all in one room, in one bed because it's a tiny room). This is totally fair enough and we're very grateful but after several frustrating phone calls, the bottom line is in four weeks (which is what she's given us) they'd have a duty to house us in emergency accommodation but that won't be within 40 miles. I work full time in said village but I don't have a car (can drive but can't afford a car) and DH has a chronic illness. He looks after the children but his sister has to help a lot until they go to nursery. If we move that far, we won't have the help and the bus fares will be about £20- £30 each day which I simply can't afford. What the hell can I do Sad I'm a regular poster but have NC'd for this, I know it sounds too ridiculous to be true but it genuinely is.

Couldn’t read and run
Sorry to hear your predicament
Thumbs up to mil for being honest and not let the situation keep grinding everyone down
Hopefully the fact that she’s making you homeless will get you extra points
Good luck

Btw..you say you live in the middle of nowhere
Does anyone do holiday cottages they might let you rent on a long let
My friend lives in the middle of nowhere but often rents her holiday cottages to people waiting for houses to be built etc
Especially over winter when the holiday trade dies off

Just a thought

Emergency accommodation is all too often far away from where people currently live, such is the shortage. I like the idea of looking for unusued holiday lets to tide you over.

What is the job situation like where the emergency accommodation is, would you be able to pick something up there?

Unfortunately the only holiday let I could get ahold of said they couldn't. I so appreciate MIL but have no idea what to do next. Feel very down.
