Climate strike - are yours taking part/school

Are you and your kids taking part ?
If so, are you telling the school the truth?

My ds wants to take part. Im not sure if telling the school the truth will get him in trouble, or whether if i dont, it defeats the point of it being a strike?

Our school gives authorised absence.

AuntieStella · 20/09/2019 07:27

No

I would however support them if they had previously showed any interest in activism that didn't mean a day off school

I've told the school the truth. What's the point otherwise? Although I believe they authorise one day a year for this.

Well, this was the gist of the letter we received from school,
In fitting with our ethos and values, we believe that students who display such passion, courage and commitment should be heard, their wishes and concerns taken into account, and their political views respected
So no issues with authorised absence. However, with DDs in Years 11 and 12, despite an interest and concern, neither of them feel they can take the time out as there is just too much to catch up on. In fact they don’t know anyone in their years that are going to the event in our local city. The younger years have a lot of participation though.

DD(14) is at school today but DS(17) is taking part. Their school is happy for pupils to take part so long as we fill out the required form. I told DS I was happy for him to take part so long as he went to his guitar lesson first, so he’s sneaking into the school wearing his own clothes then heading out to the demo. Grin
