A family members left eye has a detached retina and apparently he has just been told they the right eye has holes?!?
They are doing a laser on the right eye today and a emergency op on the left tomorrow.
Anyone know anything about this?
Trying not to use Doctor Google

Yes, DH had it a couple of years ago. They pumped the eye with gas and the pressure sticks the retina back in place. He didn't have any holes though. It was sorted out fairly straightforwardly. Amazing considering he'd be blind in that eye now.

I've not had a detachment but have had some retinal holes repaired. I had cryo surgery, not painful but I had a massively dilated pupil for a bit due to all the drops they put in.

I had mine done in the 80's. They tucked a piece of silicon foam behind the eyeball to push it into contact with the torn flap of retina.(Like denting a ping-pong ball)

Great information about this from an eye hospital www.moorfields.nhs.uk/condition/retinal-detachment

I though I had one earlier this year because I was getting flashes in my left eye. Everything turned out ok thank goodness. It sounds like your relative has ignored the symptoms but they will be ok after the laser treatment.
