At what age would you let DC go to festivals?

DD wants to go to Glastonbury next year (with her boyfriend, both the same age). Tickets are on sale next month so I have to decide.

As it’s so long in advance I do wonder whether she will still be with her boyfriend by then. So it may be her and a girlfriend going together...

Have not put DD’s age on purpose. Will do later.

DS was 19 when he went to Glastonbury, think DD was 20. Wasn't that I banned them, that was the first time they showed any interest in going! And then they went together with a group of friends, also to Reading.

I would definitely have not let them go at 16/17, I would have had a fit, but at 18 you can't stop them. Luckily they never showed any interest before then.

Doesn’t Glastonbury always fall slap bang in the middle of school exams?

They have usually finished by the end of June.

16

I don’t know what age but I would say younger than most have. However, I am a Glastonbury goer so feel I know it well and my children will as they grow up.

Maybe 14 or 15 but it would depend on the child. I wanted to go at 13 and my parents said no way!

By 16 I would most definitely let them go.

However, I will add I would be terrified of them wanting to go to Reading at that age or at 16!

Mine went to Reading with her BF at 16 within a group . He had his drink spiked and was quite ill and the rest of the group too drunk to help. Thankfully Dd doesn’t drink and could help. They went again this year and drugs and alcohol were rife but they had a good time but average age was 16/17

IdblowJonSnow · 20/09/2019 22:37

Never! Until I can't stop them!
I went to Leeds when I was 21, it was really fun, don't think I would have wanted to go at any younger, it was wild. Never been to Glasto.
I think 16 is too young for any of the major festivals.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 20/09/2019 22:39

Dunno, I have a 16 year old and definitely wouldn't be comfortable yet.
Too young.
I'd say 18 as that way young adult and I can't exactly stop then...

CherryPavlova · 20/09/2019 22:43

Eighteen. It’s an adult environment and they need to be adults.

Riverviews · 20/09/2019 22:44

16 is the norm for Reading festival.
