Do people still really think this kind of shit?

Well obviously some do. A female friend of mine posted this on FB.

I KNOW it's only a meme, but the amount of women commenting on it agreeing is unbelievable. I've had 4 'angry' faces to my 'what a load of bollocks' comment. Grin

So there you have it - you're only a real woman if you don't wear nail varnish and never brush your hair. If you do, you're clearly doing it wrong.

Ugh. But then you get lambasted for NOT doing those things because you’re not taking care of yourself Hmm

Gazelda · 18/09/2019 19:07

I'm staggered that anyone thinks like this. Let alone is dumb (to quote another thread) enough to post it.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 18/09/2019 19:07

It's bollocks for the hard of thinking.

MarySibleysFamiliar · 18/09/2019 19:08

You're right. It's bollocks.

I'm a mess. Trainers, jeans and hoodies every day. Hair in a pony tail, no nails and not so much as moisturiser never mind actual make up. I'm no more a mum than the ones all dressed up every day. In fact, they're managing to parent AND doll themselves up. Good for them.

BeBraveAndBeKind · 18/09/2019 19:08

I can't bear this whole 'pitting women against each other' shit and I fully support your bollocks comment.

Women need to be supporting and lifting each other up not viewing them as competition to be belittled by memes.

OhMsBeliever · 18/09/2019 19:08

WTF! I don't actually do/have those things but plenty of my friends do and they are just as much as real a woman as I am.

How bloody stupid.

Or maybe I should be boasting about how real I am? Hmm

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 18/09/2019 19:08

According to that im a real woman

Yay! That doesnt happen often at all

(But seriously i agree, its a stupid thing to say/think)

PickAChew · 18/09/2019 19:09

Yay, I'm a real woman, after all.

you're right, though. It is bollocks and just another example of needlessly putting women under scrutiny and criticising them for being deemed to be not subservient enough.

TickleMyFanny · 18/09/2019 19:11

What an absolute crock

Expressedways · 18/09/2019 19:13

You missed that apparently only mothers are ‘real women’
But yes it’s ridiculous bullshit that pits women against each other and judges them on whether or not they’ve reproduced and their physical appearance. To be honest, I think anyone who agrees must be a bit thick.

TinyMystery · 18/09/2019 19:13

How do ANY of those things have anything to do with being a mother or a woman. I have loads of interests aside from being a mum (although none of them are hair/nails/phones) and have plenty of time to do them and look after DS.

I bet there has never been a ‘Look out for the dads who don’t shave, exercise or wear nice jeans’ meme.

mizu · 18/09/2019 19:13

And THIS is why I'm not on FB Grin

RavenLG · 18/09/2019 19:14

Women just putting other women down. It’s shit!

phoenixrosehere · 18/09/2019 19:16

🙄

I hate those type of memes. If you’re this or not this.. you’re a real....
Bulls**t!

Putting a bit of lippy on and running a brush through my hair was some of the only things that made me still feel like myself after becoming a mum.

Fuma · 18/09/2019 19:18

True enough it's bollocks. I mean, I can see that it's meant as a riposte to all of the Closer etc "stories" about so and so and their amazing post baby body, because that kind of shit does I think put pressure on people. But there is absolutely nothing at all wrong with taking the time to work on your appearance if that's what you want to do. One of the best things I did six weeks after I had my first was go and get my hair cut in a nice style. It made me feel really happy! Other women don't want to do that and that's fine as well but it didn't make me less of a real mum. Of course I was a mum! I'd just had a baby!

SmoothLawAbider · 18/09/2019 19:20

Honestly I would just instantly unfollow anyone who posts memes like this.

MamaFlintstone · 18/09/2019 19:25

Yes unfortunately people (women) do still think this shit. I remember a post on here where a woman was lambasted for saying she was going to get eyelash extensions before her due date so she felt she’d look better with no effort once the baby was born.

I put on makeup every single day of maternity leave and it was one of the few things that made me feel like I was still a person and helped keep me sane, frankly.

ALongHardWinter · 18/09/2019 19:27

You can guarantee that the ones who agree with it are the ones doing precisely the opposite!

Courtney555 · 18/09/2019 19:29

"Real women have curves" Get in the bin.

"Real women are mothers who don't paint their nails" Because clearly a coat of polish results in child neglect. Get in the bin.

"Real women don't need a man" Don't insinuate I'm somehow weaker if I have one. How about if I've just come out of a relationship? Have I suddenly graduated to "real?" Get in the bin.

Wondering how any woman can be anything other than a "real woman". What's an un-real woman????

Soola · 18/09/2019 19:31

Reading that utter tripe I had a mental image of this....

Do people still really think this kind of shit?
Duckegg271 · 18/09/2019 19:49

Same as the ‘my house is a shit tip because I’m too busy making magical memories with my kids to clean’ 🙄

popehilarious · 18/09/2019 19:51

Honestly I would just instantly unfollow anyone who posts memes like this.

They'd probably unfollow me after I unleashed a wild-eyed rant at them :)

purplepoop · 18/09/2019 20:01

I have painted nails. I have nice hair and an Iphone 6.

🖕🏼🖕🏼🖕🏼🖕🏼🖕🏼🖕🏼🖕🏼🖕🏼🖕🏼🖕🏼 To those lovely mummies who believe this shit.

My kids are happy, healthy, much loved, polite, messy and have attitude😀

timshelthechoice · 18/09/2019 20:03

Unfollow. Thick, ignorant bollocks.

TwatCat · 18/09/2019 20:03

Well I don't get my nails done, I cut my own hair and get complimented on it all the time. Don't wear makeup except for eye liner and mascara, etc... So whilst I don't spend money on this it doesn't make me any more a woman than someone who does.

I do however spend a LOT of money on shoes. 🤷🏼‍♀️

It's choice at the end of the day. Who gives a shit what anyone else does.
