Ideal kitchen

I know this has likely been done to death, but making my own thread so any ideas are all in the one place Smile

So, first time ever that we'll be getting a new kitchen! Have always moved in to homes with a semi decent kitchen and updated bits / appliances along the way. But after Christmas we will be able to get our very own brand new kitchen Grin

So hit me with your ideas and must haves! Anything you would love (and why) and what you absolutely could not do without!!

In terms of ideas, I don't think I want a sleek high gloss white kitchen. As lovely as they are I do absolutely adore the country style rustic type kitchen. Cream or sage green. One thing I'll definitely be getting is a range (possibly Aga if the budget extends!) with a mantle over it 😍 love them!

Ooh even photos would be great! Either from your own kitchen or things you've seen online??

Tia!

I'd like an old fashioned walk-in larder. My mum had one - the fridge freezer lived in there and apart from that it was just shelves where all food stuff was kept.

How exciting! For me I’d want:
American style fridge freezer - plumbed in with water filter and ice maker
2 dishwashers - so you can load one whilst the other is running
Hot water tap
2 ovens that self clean (although it sounds like you’ve decided on the range already, they are fab!)

Thanks for the replies!! Yes very exciting indeed!!

We do actually have a larder type cupboard at the moment, which is effectively the cupboard under the stairs. We've shelved it already and it is fab. Definitely wouldn't have space for a fridge freezer, mind you. But it's a keeper!

Love the idea of 2 dishwashers Grin there's only the 3 of us...how many in your family? Don't think I could justify having a 2nd one or using precious space for another one. But I love your thinking! Hot water tap...yes!!! American fridge freezer...will decide once we've sorted out space etc. Ice / water dispenser though...good shout! You can get them on standard fridge freezers too so will add that to my list Grin

Our kitchen isn't huge. It's a long narrow shape however there is a useless conservatory tacked on to the back of it. When we bought the house we thought "ooh wonderful!". Most useless thing ever!!! Either too hot or cold, keeping windows clean is never ending plus the middle of the double glazing is filled with condensation . We've had the foundations looked at and it is strong enough to build up the brick work to make into an actual room. We've thought about using it to make it a large kitchen / diner (my idea). DH wants to make it a snug (aka a man cave for him to watch tv or play the odd game of PS4). Says he wants peace from the noise of the washing machine etc. I think my idea is much better though Grin

Definitely get a bin drawer if you have space. Ours houses the main bin, recycling and glass all in a 60cm base unit. I love it so much. No horrible bins on show.

Deep base drawers are more useful than cupboards. We get tons of stuff in them.

Try and not have wall cupboards, or have some wall without them if you can. It makes a huge difference to the feel of the space and is nice to have a open food prep area.

books all great ideas, thank you! Hadn't even thought as far as buns etc but you make a great point! And I'll definitely take on board your advice about the wall space Smile

Biggest bin drawer you can get
Pull out larder cupboard
Pan drawers
Pull out shelves in low cupboards
Biggest island and seating around it you can have
No wall cupboards although full size units work
Cutlery drawer
Plugs with USB ports
Built in storage for stuff like ironing board, hoover etc if they don’t fit into a utility room

That’s what’s made our new kitchen, love it

40 loving your ideas! Think I'll need to work on DH a bit more so we could potentially get a huge island Grin he'll definitely lose his man cave if we go down that road!

Can't believe I'll have a lovely new swishy kitchen this time next year. Have waited my whole life for this Grin

Belfast sink? Love the look of them. Anyone have them? Any drawbacks?
