Granny Smith apples

Why are they now so small? I did think maybe it was just Aldi so have checked in Tesco and Waitrose and they are all tiny, by the time you take away the core there is nothing left of them! I’m sure they used to be huge.

Dwarfing rootstocks. Apples are smaller but the trees have a higher yield.

Basically, growing smaller trees closer together has proven to increase their harvest up to 300%!

Smaller trees are easier to spray and harvest which reduces labour costs.

It will be a positive thing when Brexit happens as we not have to adhere to EU rules and can start growing out apples again to the size we want.

Thanks for explanation. Thing is I don’t buy the apples now because they are so small. More core than “apple”!
