Yes it will go, I have started and stopped to take breaks over the years. For the first couple of days I feel like this, then it clears x

hopscotchz · 17/09/2019 18:03

Yes, it will go, I got that the first days, also some sort of "electric " sensation if you know what I mean?
Now I am a new woman!

indianbackground · 17/09/2019 18:07

I didn’t get this when I started, but did when I tried to completely stop. It is known to have these kind of effects. Even so it’s worth talking to the team/GP who prescribed to let them know. Depending on the level of the side effects they might suggest that you have a different drug.

edwardcullensotherwoman · 17/09/2019 18:20

Yes to the nausea! That's mostly eased now (I'm about 2 months in) just get the odd mild wave. I also sometimes get the "high" feeling when I'm over tired. One side effect I still get which is really odd is yawning - about 2 hours after taking it I get a 20-30 minute bout of constant yawning Confused
But I assure you it gets better, and I'm a lot better as a result of taking it.
If you don't mind me asking, what's the reason you've been prescribed it? I've had it for anxiety and found it best of a few Smile

Gingerkittykat · 17/09/2019 18:23

Is it your first tablet or are you withdrawing?

Personally I wouldn't touch that poison ever again because of the withdrawals.

tomboytown · 17/09/2019 18:29

I was trying various hrt meds which weren’t working and unavailable. The worst symptoms are anxiety and depression, gp said we should try these, good for other hrt symptoms too. I wasn’t convinced, but absolutely desperate

OP posts:
tomboytown · 17/09/2019 18:30

Gp did say it’s worth getting through the side effects

OP posts:
Chesntoots · 17/09/2019 18:32

I was on it during my breakdown. I would never touch it again. My brain still doesn't feel the same ten years on. Taking it was the worst decision I've ever made.

Obviously, from what other posters have said though, it works well for some people.

HavelockVetinari · 17/09/2019 18:33

It'll pass, don't worry. Although the yawning and teeth grinding can be ongoing. Don't take it too close to bedtime or you won't be able to sleep.

You could ask for slow-release capsules, they massively reduce the nausea etc.

tomboytown · 17/09/2019 18:43

Jesus
I need to relax, not be more tense

LHReturns · 17/09/2019 19:50

The XR slow release capsules help with them the nausea, and take it with some food in your stomach.

How many days have you survived yet? It is the only one that really works for me - but I would say start up side effects last up to two weeks. But then it really does help - (and it totally fixes my insomnia).

Starting and stopping lots of different drugs in quick succession because of early side effects is a very bad plan.

Good luck!

LHReturns · 17/09/2019 19:51

Sorry I meant XL extended release capsules!

tomboytown · 17/09/2019 19:52

The very first tablet!
I’ve never had any reaction like this to any drug
I really panicked

combatbarbie · 17/09/2019 19:57

It will pass trust me, I feel normal for the first time in 20yrs.... Have been on 300mg for a year so you can imagine how I was before it! I've tried fluoxetine, citralapram etc this one is the best by far..... But also the worst journey to get too x

AllModra · 17/09/2019 20:30

300mg a day here, split into two doses, morning and night.

I don't get side effects after 10years on it but if I try to stop taking it I get discontinuation syndrome. So be careful.

tomboytown · 17/09/2019 20:35

How does it make you feel better?

OP posts:
LHReturns · 17/09/2019 20:45

Oh OP - the first tablet is going to be a bit shit I'm afraid. And the next few. DON'T STOP. Keep taking the correct dosage at the same time every day. Don't question it.

Just count through the hours - because very soon (days not weeks) you will be through it, and then you don't have to do it again. Once you start to feel fractionally better, the side effects just fade.

It is the only drug that totally lifted me out of PND, and allowed me to deal with so much more life without anxiety crippling me. The impact on anxiety is the best bit.

I am fully aware that some people don't like it - but it is usually prescribed when other more standard SSRIs have not worked. Venlafaxine is an SRNI which at a dose above 150mg hits anxiety very successfully.

The other SNRI that wasn't around when I started all this, but everyone also raves about is Duloxetine. Kinda wish I had the chance to try that one.

hopscotchz · 17/09/2019 20:53

Everybody is different, venlaflaxine is the only thing that helped me with anxiety and panic attacks. It made me feel better after a week.
Take it with a full stomach and I recommend in the morning so you can sleep better; I'm taking the slow release tablets and I am finally feeling like myself again.

If you are not feeling better after 3-4 of days go back to the dr, it might not be for you!

combatbarbie · 17/09/2019 20:58

It's up to 10 days to get into your system OP, your anxiety will peak and then drop as the drugs start to work

howu2 · 17/09/2019 21:01

Google serotonin syndrome and if you feel you have these symptoms go back to whoever prescribed it ASAP.

tomboytown · 17/09/2019 22:09

Don’t think it’s that bad howu2

tomboytown · 17/09/2019 22:10

Might get to sleep sometime about 5am, feel like I should be going out clubbing in Ibiza

OP posts:
MrsTommyBanks · 17/09/2019 23:37

Yes!
I had a slow change over from mitazipine. It was awful. I honestly felt terrible. It did pass quite quickly.

Stompythedinosaur · 18/09/2019 01:24

The side effects pass for most people if you stick with it for a couple of weeks.

Nat6999 · 18/09/2019 02:42

Mirtazapine is the only antidepressant that I have ever had without side effects, no weight gain either.
