Pest Control

Last week we thought we saw a mouse run into a vent in the kitchen. Not entirely sure it was a mouse as the holes in the vent are quite small... we phoned pest control anyway he came out and left bait. Came back today a week later and said some bait has been taken from the loft and under the kitchen cupboards but there are no signs of any droppings. There were no droppings last week either. I live in a rented property so luckily don't have to pay for pest control. He said there were places under the kitchen in the walls where a mouse could have access and he could fill it in and clear up under kitchen cupboards as builders left a lot of crap under there when they done the kitchen. He said he's just waiting on landlords approval and will come back next week to check the bait again. When he first came in he admitted he couldn't remember what he done last week so I explained where he put it etc 🙄. What I'm really asking is does anyone think I actually have a mouse? I don't want to stay here if there are mice as I'm petrified of them 😫

There are probably mice around the house if some of the bait has been taken but if there are no droppings it doesn't sound like they actually live there. That's a big positive from your point of view as they likely enter only when they are hungry and the can smell some food.

As they've taken the bait there is a strong chance they wondered off outside and their internal organs liquefied and they died (I'm pretty sure that's how they die from this stuff). So in future a different mouse is only likely to return if there is a food source for them so make sure you keep your food packed away, don't leave dirty plates around etc.

My DP is petrified of mice/rats so I do understand that it's not nice for you. But I don't think there is anything to worry about and if the pest control does come back to secure the property they won't be able to get back in anyway.

Thank you. That's the thing my flat is spotless. No food or anything is ever left unpacked and no dirty plates. I even empty my toaster after each use because of crumbs going back in the cupboard.
Hopefully I won't see one and the landlords agree for him to fill the holes (probably won't) if not I'll get my brother to fill it. So annoying. Next week cant come fast enough 😩
