Clearing our the freezer. Today o have put stewing steak in the slow cooker, with carrots, butternut squash, red pepper and a stock pot. Some water. The onions have all gone sprouty.

What else can I add to make it edible?

You can still use the onions! Garlic, tin of tomatoes.

BenWillbondsPants · 16/09/2019 16:14

Any red wine? Herbs? I do think you need onions but I love them and put them in just about everything!

Steviestamborine · 16/09/2019 16:15

Garlic, red wine and mustard, mustard in a beef stew is gorgeous

Nowt wrong with sprouty onions! I'd add tomatoes too. Tinned or fresh.

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 16/09/2019 16:17

Wine, maybe a spot of dried chilli? Smoked paprika?

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 16/09/2019 16:18

Red lentils if you have them.

Some feta at the end, crumbled in.

DementorsKiss · 16/09/2019 16:19

marmite & maybe a dark ale

Sparrowlegs248 · 16/09/2019 16:53

The onions are not edible. Hadn't thought of tomatoes, randomly.

Mustard sounds interesting!

I'm a purist and would never add squash or peppers or garlic or lentils (don't like them) or tomatoes or anything else other than (eg for steak and kidney) shin of beef, ox kidney, onions, carrots, beef stock, a dash of Worcester sauce and a splash of red wine, salt and pepper, not forgetting to add dumplings to finish - yum.

Grapes, cherry tomatoes and chopped up apple.

Well ds put them in a lasagne when he was about 2yo. It was perfectly edible!
