How much would you say for cleaning guttering?

Average 3 bed semi with guttering to 3 sides.
Been quoted some silly prices so just wondering what you think is reasonable/what you would expect to pay.
Whenever I get a quote for this kind of work I always wonder whether I’m in the wrong job!
Thanks

No more than 150 pounds. DH says it wouldn't be more than half a day's work.

PrettyShiningPeople · 16/09/2019 11:25

I was expecting it to be £80 or £90 at the most.

It got me thinking, why is it that when women offer domestic cleaning services the rate is around £10 per hour, but the going rate for men doing outdoor cleaning jobs is about 5 times the price??

I know it’s a trickier job in this case, using the ladders. But even allowing a bit of danger money it’s still a hefty mark up.

They don't even need a ladder, they use a suction machine that they extend up and has a bend at the top to suck out any leaves in the guttering. Don't pay more than about £70.

Have you asked your window cleaner? Ours cleans the gutters out, we have loads of trees around so they tend to get full of leaves in autumn. He only charges £40 and ours is a four bed detached.

EntirelyAnonymised · 16/09/2019 11:38

We pay £100 twice a year to our a window to have it done, he has a suction machine with a camera on it. Tall/large house with awkward roofline, so it feels like good value to be honest.

EntirelyAnonymised · 16/09/2019 11:38

To our window cleaner that should say

DioneTheDiabolist · 16/09/2019 11:41

Another suggestion to ask your window cleaner. Mine does it for £10 per gutter, so front and back costs me £20 on top of his usual fee.

PivotPivotPivottt · 16/09/2019 11:43

My window cleaner does it for £60

StealthPolarBear · 16/09/2019 11:47

We have a 4 bed detached house and have just paid £40. North East.

Shahlalala · 16/09/2019 11:48

Ours are £25 and we’re in a three bed link house. We’re in the north east though.

BeyondMyWits · 16/09/2019 11:56

ours - detached, 3 runs of guttering, was £70 including a clean of the gutters, downpipes, fascias, soffits and barge-boards - all look sparkly fresh and new.

made a big difference (and cleared the gutters out before winter too!)

ElizaPancakes · 16/09/2019 11:59

I pay £30 for mine, but then I live in a small terrace so only front and back. Also no gardens so relatively clean with no leaves.

TheQueef · 16/09/2019 12:03

Another vote for the window cleaner.
Provided you don't live in a forest and three buckets will cover it.
Mine charges £15 per gutter. He also does a pvc frames wash for £5 per window.
And he will do the insides for £20.
Now I think about it he's always bloody upselling.

Gutter cleaning has an element of danger to it OP...it's not the same as cleaning which is pretty risk free. Women could do it too though.

I've often thought about this though...typically "female" jobs...things which need training such as hairdressing, beauty and so on are poorly paid but the male orientated jobs are well paid.

But there's nothing to stop women being plumbers nowadays is there?

Kazzyhoward · 16/09/2019 14:00

What's to stop a woman doing the outside cleaning jobs? Gutter cleaning is pretty simple with the right equipment, i.e. ladders, suction machine, outdoor clothing, van to carry it all, etc etc. I can't see anything there a man can do that a woman can't.
