Men buying eBay items

Sallycanwait1 · 16/09/2019 08:47

So I'm selling a shit load of old clothes on ebay.

A surprisingly large amount is being sold to men.

Is this just me or do other people find men are buying their old clothes.

I can't stop thinking whether they are buying for a partner or for themselves, are they wearing them themselves?

I sold a silk Teddy, I didn't actually think it would sell, I wouldn't buy used lingerie, but it did, to a man.

Should I be concerned that my clothes are so popular for men. Maybe time for a new look.

It wouldn't bother me who was buying them or for what purpose, so long as the money was paid.
Some men may be buying them for cross dressing purposes, or because they're living as a woman prior to a sex change, but may feel embarrassed about buying clothes in a shop.
Don't give it any thought.

Oh no!!!
If it helps to think of an alternative, I don’t have an eBay account. I’d use DH’s account. He’s had it a long long time.
Also jn the early days of the inter webs females were told to present as men to avoid hassle..
so your purchasers could be innocent females?

BeepBeeep · 16/09/2019 08:53

On that note, I buy a lot of clothes from Amazon. The account is in my husband's name.
Maybe it's the same? It's the man's account, but actually the woman who is ordering.

Possibly for themselves, does it matter as long as it sells. Could be for someone else, depends on the size. If you're a 'larger' person I'd say increases the chance of a man buying for himself.

WanderingMind · 16/09/2019 08:59

Does it matter once you've sold it? At that stage it belongs to the person who bought it. What they do with it is down to them.

SimplyBeBlythe · 16/09/2019 09:03

There is a huge market on eBay for selling used items of women’s clothing to men - particularly undies, tights and shoes. No, the men are not wearing them.

🤷‍♀️ Personally once it’s paid for and in the post then I wouldn’t worry about it.

tectonicplates · 16/09/2019 09:15

I'm really disappointed to read the "Does it matter once you've sold it?" replies here. It matters because it matters! If the OP feels uncomfortable then she feels uncomfortable. We're not required to explain why men make us feel uncomfortable.

HJWT · 16/09/2019 09:17

How do you know its not a woman using her partners account? My DH gets loads of car rubbish of my account including car parts!

jackparlabane · 16/09/2019 09:20

I think many women use accounts first set up by a partner. DP and I both set up accounts at the same time but agreed we'd keep the one which got feedback first, so I've spent 20 years buying bras etc under a name like dave-wotsit! I do sometimes leave feedback calling myself Mrs Wotsit, which is funny because I'm never a Mrs anywhere else.

Sallycanwait1 · 16/09/2019 09:21

I don't feel uncomfortable about it. Just surprised and maybe a little questioning of my fashion choices that they are so appealing to men.

The clothes I'm selling go from size 6-14 (bit of a yoyo dieter) but it does seem to be the stretcher stuff going to men.

Tbh now I know someone will buy old underwear I might put some of my old bras on, might make a few quid.

But yes it could also be women using a partners accounts. That's not as interesting though.

I don't have an eBay account because I rarely want anything from it. DH does. I use his account.
I'm putting bids on a maternity bundle at the moment. If i get it then it will go through DH account.

If the OP feels uncomfortable then she feels uncomfortable. We're not required to explain why men make us feel uncomfortable.
And yet many of us have said we have 1 eBay account for the household so actually it's probably more likely to be that than anything else.
If she wants to sit and fester over the fact that my maternity bundle (if I don't get pipped last minute) gets delivered to Dave then that's up to her.

LolaSmiles · 16/09/2019 09:24

Cross posted with OPs update. She doesn't feel uncomfortable and has taken on board shared accounts. Smile

Sallycanwait1 · 16/09/2019 09:27

I'm selling loads of Maternity stuff

Maybe it's you!

I haven't actually sold any Maternity stuff to a man.

I'm too lazy to set up my own EBay account. Or Paypal
DH and I have a joint bank account.
It never occurred to me that in the years of buying women's clothes from eBay for me someone would think they were for him.

SquirellTamer · 16/09/2019 09:39

Years ago, I was selling some brand new maternity tights on ebay as I had bought the wrong size. The amount of people who contacted me asking if they were used and had they been washed were astonishing!

Ratbagratty · 16/09/2019 09:43

I'm selling maternity / ladies clothes using DH account. It's been set up for years and I didn't want to flaff getting my own, setting up PayPal etc so we use it as a shared account.

LolaSmiles · 16/09/2019 09:47

Sally
I'm only watching one bundle so if you've got lots it's probably not me.

SquirellTamer
Could that be more people checking that they were in their pack new Vs tried on at home once so not really used?
I'd probably be willing to buy new tights in the sealed box but wouldnt want any tights, even new, if they've been tried on.

Maternity tights also also annoyingly expensive! misses point of thread but it's a current irritation

nonmerci · 16/09/2019 11:05

My account used to be under DH’s name so it may have looked like it was going to a man but it was definitely for me.

BeepBeeep · 16/09/2019 11:33

I've just had a thought that's got me giggling.
I often leave a review on items I've bought, using my husband's Amazon account as I said. Imagine......
' The suspenders are a good fit and hold my stockings up perfectly '

HairyTruckerDave from Hull

NB. My husband's name isn't Dave and he's not from Hull, nor is he a trucker. 😂

Sallycanwait1 · 16/09/2019 11:57

I am imagining some cross dresser in his bedroom wearing my old clothes. But they probably are just being bought on partners accounts. I do feel relevied that my fashion sense isn't the same as men's.
