Is it because he loves me - or does he think I need a wash?HmmGrin

Maybe you taste good.

Mine likes to lick my hands if I've been using anything with bleach in it to clean.
She will also lick me if I have been eating meat.

It’s because he loves you and is grooming you as a bonding experience or cleaning you because he thinks you’re grubby.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 15/09/2019 18:48

Testing to see if you're ready to be eaten.

Rockbird · 15/09/2019 18:53

According to Jackson galaxy, the licking is a sign of affection. Basically, they're grooming us because they think we're really crap cats and we can't do it ourselves Grin

ALongHardWinter · 15/09/2019 18:57

It's a sign of affection. They do it to bond with you. My cat frequently licks me.

Bezalelle · 15/09/2019 19:00

Mine does this, often when sleeping on DP's pillow when he's away. He also likes to reach his paw out and claw me (the cat, not DP...)

ProfYaffle · 15/09/2019 19:02

My cat gets very licky when we first wake up in the mornings. I think she misses us while we're asleep!

RabidRabbles · 15/09/2019 19:03

Mine does it to wake me up in the middle of the night morning. It's cat code for "Get your arse out of bed and feed me, you lazy slattern!"

Sooverthemill · 15/09/2019 19:04

Affection, grooming - they do groom each other when they are very bonded. She loves you!

Ronsters · 15/09/2019 19:05

I think it's affection/bonding. My cat likes to sit on my lap and lick my hand while I stroke him with the other hand, like a mutual grooming session.
I was once wearing a really fine silver bracelet and he kept licking around it and doing that nibbly thing they do on their fur, that felt really weird.

SagelyNodding · 15/09/2019 19:06

I have a licky cat too! So cute Smile I think he thinks I am a rubbish cat and that I need his help to keep clean...
He also licks soft toys and sucks on duvets whilst 'paddling' (maybe because he was abandoned by his mum at 3-4 weeks?)

Trufflegirl · 15/09/2019 20:37

The first thing my cat often does, when I come home and take my flip-flops/shoes and socks off, is lick my feet. There's no accounting for taste, I guess....
