Learning a language, now vs then

In the nineties I learned French and German at school (and Latin as an after school enrichment for disadvantaged kids - I didn’t realise at the time ).

I loved learning languages, even though I dropped them at A level to focus on my sciences.

I’ve recently picked them up again with Duolingo and podcasts and can’t believe how it’s even more fun and so much easier. You could race ahead of the school work and have a much richer experience.

I’m wondering what your experience is of learning languages. What about your children? Do they take advantage of the new tech? Any language teachers reading?

@Natsku 15!?!?! The 7 in Slovak is killing me so kudos to you. Thank you also for the 15 years comment - I feel really dreadful that after 8 years I'm still so bad but you've given me optimism! Wish me luck mastering the next level and I hope in another 7 years that I'll be at your level.

@WelshMammaofaSlovak Yup, though only 12 are used regularly (hah, only 12). Good luck with the next level and keep on persevering - practice, practice, and more practice is the way you do it.
