How Many Steps Do You Do a Day?

I thought I did a lot just in my normal day to day business until I got a cheap fitbit!

I set mine for 10,000 and make sure I do them every day which is easy at weekends but harder in the week as my job is busy but can leave me chained in one place during the day. I've added in walks before and after work to hit the target.

It's made me wonder how many people try to average in a day.

I just record my steps in my phone. So it’s not that accurate as I don’t always have my phone on me. But it’s roughly 7.5k at work. About 5k - 8k on a weekend. Once a month or so I’ll do more like 15-20k

swampytiggaa · 15/09/2019 10:57

Current average is 22k per day. I’ve done 16k this morning before 10am as I’ve been for a run 🙂

YeOldeTrout · 15/09/2019 11:04

I have a target to do 'something' almost every day that is fairly aerobic for at least 1/2 hour. I don't use fitbit to set a target, but did set it to congratulate me if I reach 116 minutes of activity that the fitbit can measure (so doesn't include swimming). I get the 116 almost every day even without swimming. Most of that is not walking or running.. no idea what my true steps count is.

pigeononthegate · 15/09/2019 11:16

I have 10k as a target on my fitbit and make sure I hit that every day. Yesterday was 14k, day before was 14.5k. I do 10km about 4 times a week and 10k steps the rest of the time, generally. Have lost 2.5 stone since I bought my fitbit and changed my diet, and give zero fucks if anyone thinks it's weird or an obsession Grin

ElleDriver · 15/09/2019 11:19

Not enough. On working days it's probably only around 5k. Weekends we will take the dog out and on a good day I can do around 12-14k. If I hit 10k I'm happy but I need to make some serious effort to do that.

Fair play to those who average 20+k as an average day but where on earth do you go?!?!

Passthecherrycoke · 15/09/2019 11:21

When commuting on the tube/ train I can easily do 20k as I used to walk 5 miles a day just to and From the stations. But now I drive so do nothing like that

Aebj · 15/09/2019 11:26

Work days around 20-35,000
Weekends around 8-10,000

Nameusernameuser · 15/09/2019 11:29

Phone says my average is around 5000. Obviously I don't have my phone on me all the time so it's probably higher, and I'm constantly climbing up shelves at work (pharma). I don't do nearly enough exercise.

OxanaVorontsova · 15/09/2019 11:31

work days around 8000 without any additional exercise
weekends 12000 with a run and/or dog walk

WhatHaveIFound · 15/09/2019 11:33

I have my Fitbit set to 10,000 but probably only reach that 4-5 days a week. However i don't worry about reaching it as on the days i'm not walking lots, i'm generally in the gym.

Oldraver · 15/09/2019 12:11

Now not ver many

When I was in a previous job between 20-30,000..I lost weight while there including from my feet and legs

Cailleach · 15/09/2019 13:58

20,000 - 30,000.

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 15/09/2019 14:04

I try to do at least 10,000 every day. I am currently training for a half marathon....yes 16 stone verrrrrrrrry slow me! I did my long run of 8 miles today and hit 25,000 but that really doesn't happen very often.

I do run 5k three mornings a week which is usually around 8,500 so not much for the rest of the day. I walk 5k three mornings then do the long run at the weekend.

I am knackered!
