Behind my back they sneaked off to scavenge ice cream from the freezer ( after I said they couldn't have any) They came across the box I put in there this morning ( which to be fair was an old still labelled vanilla ice cream tub) and somehow managed to scoop themselves huge portions of.....

Reminds me of when DH called me at work one day to ask what the hell I’d frozen in the ice cube tray. He’d out some ‘ice’ in his orange juice - turned out to be white wine (for risotto).

stay freeze red in cubes for lasagnes etc too!

Sad thing about the wine is - there is rarely any left to freeze.

Usually I buy a decent white, pour myself a large glass, glug some into the risotto... eye up the rest of the bottle ‘shame to let it go to waste’ and we drink it.

And that is why I use nice wine in my risotto...

The is never red wine left. I have tried red wine and even port in risotto. Not as bad as you may imagine. I wouldn’t recommend champagne as it all frothed up and gave me a scare - I’d drunk the rest of the bottle and was a bit alarmed (and tipsy).

I don’t recommend drunk cooking either.

Hope DH doesn't suddenly need dried skimmed milk as thats where the green & blacks chocolate is...

Growing up we used to have two tubs of of strawberry vienetta ice cream in the freezer. One of which contained the, as labeled ice cream, one of which was used as a container for frozen mice that my sister used to feed her pet snakes.

Amazing how normalised the sight of a defrosting mouse in a jam jar lid on the Aga can be. We used to say 'can you go shake the ice cream' to mean can you find the ice cream rather than the mice.

There was an unfortunate incident at a dinner party where someone forgot to check before putting them out on the table and a guest opened it...
