I haven’t traveled anyway outside of the UK in 10 years until last month and that was my first time ever flying alone...I’m feeling brave Grin and want to go for a weekend (Friday - Sunday) away on my own.

Any recommendations/ideas?!

TIA

Brugge ( get the Eurostar to Brussels then on to Brugge)

Flying Amsterdam, Barcelona, Switzerland

Edinburgh is beautiful!

Flying from London (pref Gatwick)
Budget...no idea...reasonably cheap if possible!
Interests...nothing in particular other then seeing new places
Flying...don’t mind really...would like to make the most of my time in the place rather then spend hours and hours flying but I’m not that fussed

Thank you!!

Hot or cold?
City, beach, both, something else?
Look at where your local airport has good flights from?
Budget?

I'd suggest Malta, the Isle of Man, Barcelona or Malaga but obviously your answers to the above may make them not ideal.

BarbaraofSeville · 14/09/2019 19:02

Cross posted.

Also look at flight times. To make the most of the weekend, you want to fly out early on Friday and come back late on Sunday.

Florence is lovely and small enough to look around in a couple of days.
You have to get a train there from the airport in piza around 40 minute though but its a nice journey and you could see the leaning Tower too while you're there.

Amsterdam - super easy to get to from Gatwick, schipol airport is lovely and a very easy taxi ride (or train ride) to the centre (which is perfect for wandering around by yourself). Have a great trip wherever you go.

Rome.

Porto is lovely. Small enough to walk around. Lovely buildings. Great shopping. Port!

Papergirl1968 · 14/09/2019 19:24

Dublin? Lots to see and do, and car not necessary. If you exhaust the city centre, you could get the train down the coast. Or i hear Belfast is getting popular.
Or as a pp suggested, the Isle of Man, especially if you like nature, or history. I’ve been twice and love it.

Thank you so much!

I figured at the age of 31, it’s time to be a bit braver and go and see the world I’ve missed out on so I’m happily accepting all suggestions!

Lisbon
Valencia
Paris by Eurostar

Look at where you can get cheap flights from Gatwick. I usually just go on the EasyJet website and work my way through the drop down menu until I hit something interesting that’s the right price.

I’m going to Barcelona by myself next month (it’s my favourite place, I go every year). But there are lots of affordable flights this time of year.

palahvah · 14/09/2019 23:43

Rome, Paris, Berlin, Barcelona....

Cities are great because being by yourself isn't a big deal, and there's so much to see.

Prague. Shopping, food and history.
