I've just seen this spider in my utility room door, it's so beautiful, does anyone know what it is?

No idea . Very pretty though

StormBaby · 14/09/2019 14:34

It's a Garden Cross spider, they get quite chunky!

troppibambini · 14/09/2019 14:37

Thanks @StormBaby it really is a handsome thing and has built a huge web!!

How lovely!

I have gone from a near phobia of spiders to enjoying looking at them in their webs.

KenAdams · 14/09/2019 16:07

Garden cross. Here's one from my garden this week and what was left of the bluebottle it was eating.

I love these guys. Not least coz they hang out in the middle of their webs so you're less likely to walk through them! There's something really pleasing about how solid they are, isn't there?

Ridingthegravytrain · 14/09/2019 16:53

Oh no I don’t like how they hang out in the middle of their web..I walk into it and end up with a beast on my face!!

Ellabella989 · 14/09/2019 16:58

I have a terrible spider phobia but the chunky ones like this don’t bother me so much, and I have to admit they do look very pretty. It’s the big black house spiders that crawl fast around my house that I cant stand. Wish I wasn’t scared as they are such interesting creatures

StormBaby · 14/09/2019 21:05

I think it's because they are less 'leggy' and quite slow to move too, so seem less scary

Craftycorvid · 14/09/2019 21:10

Ah! Pretty orb weaver. Didn’t know they were called Garden Cross though.

ItsAHardKn0ckLife1 · 14/09/2019 21:13

Much prettier than the one my husband found in our conservatory Shock

Nb was already dead when found, think the cat may have had its paws on it

We have masses of them at the moment. Ive given up dead heading my buddleija as there are masses of webs.

Ive been watching one massive lady on my bay for a week, she runs of whenever I get near

Moominfan · 14/09/2019 21:32

Think I've found my people. Spiders are so damn cute and eat bugs what's not to like

IceniSky · 14/09/2019 21:33

We have a zillion in our garden. Start off small but grow big. Stopping me from gardening, something about the colour I really hate.

Craftycorvid · 14/09/2019 22:33

Proper harbingers of autumn. I love seeing them sitting in the middle of a dew-soaked web.

Hadenoughofitall441 · 14/09/2019 22:43

Had our first daddy long legs today... until the dog decided she was Hungary 😂

Bluebelldaisy · 14/09/2019 22:54

They are bloody strong little buggers as well and build strong webs. We set off to go to the other side of the country with one that had built its web on the wing mirror a few weeks ago. I had meant to move it but forgot and it was only when we got on the motor way and saw it bouncing around I remembered. It clung on until we got to our destination and then clung on again all the way home

Bobkitten · 14/09/2019 23:24

How beautiful - another lovely thing about Autumn. Very glad to see some fellow spider-lovers on here. Looks fondly at pet tarantulas

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 15/09/2019 01:13

I’ve finally found my people, yay. Grin

Orangepancakes · 15/09/2019 01:50
