Is this tonsillitis?

DS is almost 5. He’s had a cold for a couple of days. He took himself off to bed early last night(something he never does!). Woke up this morning, had a drink, then 10mins later was sick. He said his throat hurt that’s when he was sick.
He’s not himself at all. Retched a bit earlier and just mucus came up. His pulse and breathing are a bit quicker than usual.
What could have caused this? Got a docs apt at 5...

Are his tonsils white / have white or green lumps on them?

Being sick isn't usually linked to tonsillitis and most peoples throat hurts after vomiting.
Tonsillitis would have a high fever and flu like, but not always. Main things is the white lumps of infection.

You can see the tonsils at the back of the throat if they are enlarged. If your phone has a light on it, use that to look at the back of his throat. Enlarged, red tonsils, and sometimes have white/yellow spots on the back of the throat.

Also agree with Nancy - high temps are usually the first sign for tonsillitis. Good luck at the docs.

Dd1 used to be really ill with tonsilitis, we would have sickness as well, so I wouldn't let the sickness rule out tonsilitis. Dd used to get a really high temp, swollen tonsils, and was really lethargic/wiped out. We rarely had spots, but she suffered so often she had them out.

Thanks. I tried looking at his throat but he wasn’t poking his tongue out far enough for me to see. Hopefully the doctor will be able to get a better look. He brought up his juice before. Just been lying on the sofa all day. He’s so hungry though. Probably not a good idea to eat just yet though?

GP checked him very thoroughly. He was a bit dehydrated, his chest was a bit rattly so prescribed antibiotics for that, temp was a bit high so to carry in with calpol. His throat looked ok so no not thinking tonsillitis. Not really sure why he was sick... he’s eating chicken nuggets at the moment! Kids!
