Moving school allocation

Hi there just wondering if anyone has any experience or advice please. We have moved a good 15 minute drive away from my children’s (I have 3 in primary) current school (we also have one at secondary but it is walkable). We made the decision to move them closer and found a lovely village school 7 minutes drive away in the opposite direction to all the traffic and on my way to work. It is run exactly the same as our current school and is the same size. We applied and got results today. There’s room (and they have been offered places) for my older two children but not my youngest who is in year 1. I really want them all in the same school rather than having to do lots of school runs and I don’t want to move him to the school they have said has places to then move him again. He’s number 4 and he’s quite sensitive to being left behind or not being able to do what the others do. The distance between our current school and the new one is 18 minutes which means being late for one or the other every day as the windows are too small to make both. So I’m looking for some advice please. They have said in their letter that in exceptional circumstances they can go over numbers In ks1 and whilst I inwardly cringe at the thought of over stretching resources, my husband has said they all move or no one moves (he doesn’t have to do school runs every day with traffic) Has anyone ever tried appealing and have you had any luck? They have considered the excepted child rule. Think I have put everything down! Any advice??

This wouldn’t count I’m afraid. You’ll have to stay in the waiting list. Maybe breakfast club for the younger one?’

You will probably got to number 1 on the waiting list if they have sibling admission priority. What is the pupil mobility like?

Good point 15thoctober2019 Apparently they have had one child leave the class since they started. Lots of new development nearby and lots of families moving in like ourselves. I just wondered if appeal would be an option. Our catchment school is full. I suppose I need to find out more about distances etc. The head has already said they are not aware of any potential leavers at the moment but well aware it can change daily. I could be waiting a couple of years though! So difficult to know what’s the best option. No breakfast club I’m afraid these are small village schools
