Handhold - freaking out. Late period.

My husband had a vasectomy in January. Had the all clear from it in about July I think. Have had sex once since my last period and now I’m 3 days late. Normally like clock work.

Took a test yesterday afternoon just to rule out pregnancy - negative. However, just emptying bin right now and there is another line.

We really don’t want another baby. I don’t think I could physically or mentally cope with another pregnancy and labour. I really don’t want another child.

Can anyone talk science to me about the test having another line??? It did have colour to it. I will do another test later when my husband is home and kids are in bed or with FMU.

Don't they say you shouldn't take notice after 20 mins or so as I false positive line can develop?

Teaandbiscuits88 · 11/09/2019 15:19

They do indeed say that but I’m still panicking...I thought it was only an evap if it has no colour

Although he had the all clear it can sometimes not always work I would wait another week or so and take a test again as if you are it may be too early to show just yet. All vasectomy’s are reversible it isn’t u heard of for this to happen BUT stress and anxiety etc can make your periods late and also other hormonal changes don’t stress to much :) hope this helps c

How long was it between taking the test and finding it with the second line? Really, you shouldn't take much notice of it after about 20 minutes but you need to do another (more reliable ie pink dye) test tomorrow with FMU and take it from there. If you ARE pregnant, you have options.

weeblueberry · 11/09/2019 15:21

Try another one first thing tomorrow morning - preferably a digital early test? Chances are you're fine but it will put your mind at ease.

Massive hand holding from me because this is my absolute worst nightmare lovely.

Thanks everyone. Trying to stay calm as I you’re right that stress doesn’t help but failing rather drastically.

Will def get a FRER when I go out later. I know it’s possible after vasectomy but if I am after only having sex once AND waiting until after he’s had the all clear then that will be the worst odds ever...

And it was about 20 hours after that I saw it had a line

It’s almost definitely an evap line OP. Blue dye tests are renowned for them at the best of times and you shouldn’t pay attention to any result after five minutes.

Nonmerci · 11/09/2019 15:36

It looks a lot thinner than the test line too which also points towards evap line.

Teaandbiscuits88 · 11/09/2019 15:36

Found another boots test lurking in my bathroom cabinet so I took it and it’s very negative! Hopefully I’m just one of those silly people who don’t follow instructions to ignore them after the time limit....

Thank you @Nonmerci - that’s reassuring. I’m normally a calm and logical person but this has thrown me into a spin

Just an update - period arrived this morning! Four days late and so so relieved.

Moral of the story - don’t read a pregnancy test 20 hours after you take it Grin

Thanks everyone for the handhold
