Healthy BMI but waist measurement worry

Just got back from my gym where I took the opportunity to get weighed and measured.

I'm a bit anxious because despite being a healthy BMI and reasonably fit, (10st 5 / 5 foot 7) my waist measurement is 35 inches plus and it'd certainly be more than that when I get PMT!

I've been told and NHS website says anything above 31 puts me at very high risk of heart disease, stroke etc. so much so that I should contact my GP!

www.nhs.uk/common-health-questions/lifestyle/why-is-my-waist-size-important/

Do all the other reasonably fit people out there have 28/30 inch waists? Is my tummy freakishly disproportionate? I don't feel like I look it, I've got 38 inch boobs and hips, they've not changed much over the years so it's not like my stomach is sticking out weirdly...

I know first world problems and I should just do some bloody sit ups!

I don't know that it will be much bigger as you are quite straight up and down! Weight and fat distribution is a funny thing. I do find that depending on what my diet is like my shape can change quite a lot even if my size doean't and i think hormones also have a fairly big part to play.

I don’t measure my hips there, I wiggle the tape measure down till I get the biggest point.

Same shape as me

Small bum thighs
Any weight there is, is on tum. Boobs as well on big side its concentrated in the middle of the body

'I wear 12-14 and although waistbands aren't ideal anything bigger would look like clown trousers on me.'

Or you get the jodphur effect where it fits around the waist and then acres of spare room in bum and thigh area!

Is not unusual there are lots of us about.

If you're slim I wouldn't stress it tbh

Also, someone suggested on here that it's to do with being short waisted, if your legs seem quite long for your height. Mine do.

I'm 5"7 and 10 stone 3, with a 35 inch waist, and is so interesting because I do Pilates, and yesterday when I was there we had to stand with our feet wider than our hips and slide one hand down one side. Most of the other women kept both feet on the mat (horizontally), but I had to take mine off and couldn't work it out. When we stood up I looked around and though the women to both my sides were my height, my hips were much, much higher up than theirs.

Your waist is where you naturally crease when you bend over to the side - it’s not going to be the same place for everyone.
