New job, have been given a SIM card. Boss has asked if I have an old phone to use it in. I have an old iPhone 4/5 that will be dc next year.... can I put it in and not connect to iTunes etc? I don’t want it connected to my personal phone in anyway?

You’d need a micro sim for an iPhone.

I think you’d need to set up a new Apple account.

Seems cheeky to give you a sim and no phone.

Yes sorry I have the mini too.

It’s a small company, I don’t want to appear rude I only started yesterday.

My son will have the handset next year before the end of the school year.....

Can I set it up as a completely new phone not remotely connected to my current email etc?

Did you say you had a phone you could put the SIM in? I'd go back and say you looked at home, but you don't have anything suitable. They'll have to get you a phone then.

I said I had an old one but would be my son’s at some point....

Is it a 4 or a 5?

4 takes a micro sim, 5 a nano.

4 is pretty much a waste of time, can't be updated etc

5 wont update, 5s or SE will

You can have a different Apple ID or not sign in to iTunes though, that's not a problem.

I have no idea what it is.... how would I know?

For work I just need to be able to make calls, texts and emails..... does that matter if it can’t update?

There will be a code on the back, you can pop it into google and it will tell you the exact model.

If you can't update the software it may run slower and struggle with charging. They are designed to die.

Best option, tell boss you dig out the old phone and it won't switch on/has another fault, so no, you don't have a spare phone for the work SIM card.

More importantly with the update situation, the phone may not be much use for your son if he wants to download any apps.
