Anyone up,... just had an unexpected visitor in my hotel room

Someone just walked into my hotel room. Apparently the connecting door I presumed was locked really wasn't. Also apparently 12.30am is a perfectly reasonable time for someone in the next room to start trying to open random doors. FFS where did he think it went?

I'm not entirely sure of the etiquette in such matters but I told him to fuck off. I may also have been a tad grumpy with the night manager who I suggested might want to secure my room.

Of course now I can't sleep. Sighs.

Fuckkkkk!!! Shock

BeepBeeeep · 11/09/2019 00:46

Could be worse.
I was once enjoying a bath in a hotel and a male cleaner walked in on me.

birdlawyer · 11/09/2019 00:46

Wow that’s unacceptable on the part of the hotel! Thank god there wasn’t someone dangerous in the connecting room. I think you should make a formal complaint in the morning. Can you ask to be moved rooms if you’re anxious about it?

Omg I always check those doors!

They're easy to lock though, just make sure you've done that on your side and you'll be fine

Lock your hotel room door too

Oakandlove · 11/09/2019 00:52

Make a complaint, get a refund. Happened me also.

eleventybillion · 11/09/2019 00:52

OMG beep that's horrific. At least I mostly had my clothes on. Confused

Doors are now secure so not anxious - just a rubbish sleeper even without late night dramas.

Nice to have a bit of company while my heart rate gets back to normal! What's keeping you night owls up?

Why the fuck would he have even attempted to get into your room? I would raise holy hell.

WhatTiggersDoBest · 11/09/2019 00:55

Ughhhh those doors are the most ridiculous invention! Who even uses them?! I always ask for "no adjoining doors" in the special requests section on Booking.com but sometimes when we book directly with hotels, there's nowhere to make the request. I had a tosser on the phone at the top of his voice at 2am right by the adjoining door every night for 5 nights over Christmas/New Year's and I had morning sickness keeping me awake too. That was how I found out some idiot had left the door unlocked and slightly open (not easily visible) between our rooms. Hotels really need to check both doors are locked when the rooms are cleaned. Hope you're ok. Can you wedge the door or block it with a chair or anything to feel more secure?

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 11/09/2019 00:55

How long are u staying for? If it is just tonight get a refund off ur bill tomorrow.
If longer id consider changing rooms too if it isnt too much hassle for u.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 11/09/2019 00:58

And in answer to your Q i am just naturally a night owl Smile.
MN also addictive reading.
And dont start work til later on.
Do u have to be up early tomorrow? Can u get a nightcap or camomile tea?

WyfOfBathe · 11/09/2019 01:04

Why the fuck would he have even attempted to get into your room?

I've opened the door to the connecting room (luckily it was 2 doors and the one on the other side was locked!) thinking it was a cupboard door. It's not necessarily malicious from the other guest. I would definitely be complaining to the hotel though!

Justaboy · 11/09/2019 01:05

Yep me too! i will never ever be a morning person the night time is the right time for well - you name it:)

Try to sleep now if you can eleventybillion!

nocoolnamesleft · 11/09/2019 01:07

I always try them, to make damn sure they're locked.

eleventybillion · 11/09/2019 01:07

Some great tips here - thank you Smile

Not too early waves. Here with work and I don't start until 830.

Thankfully I go home tomorrow.

Both doors are have been secured by the night manager who sloped off muttering about morning handovers and incident logs.

I suspect my company might have a few things to say. It's a regular training venue.

Good to meet you night owls Smile

I'm naturally a lark so don't often get chance to hang out with the night shift. It's pretty cool!!

OP posts:
managedmis · 11/09/2019 01:15

Can you switch rooms? I'm sure it wasn't malicious : I'd be kind of curious too.

(I'm not an owl by any stretch, it's only 8.15pm here across the pond Grin)

TimeForNewStart · 11/09/2019 01:15

I would try the door, why wouldn’t you? Maybe they’ve given you a suite or something? Maybe it leads to Narnia! Can’t believe anyone would suggest that the guy was being at all unreasonable!

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 11/09/2019 01:29

Nice to meet you Eleventy Smile hope you get a good sleep now.

Sleep soon for me.

Narnia 😂😂😂

Tltl · 11/09/2019 01:44

I once checked in very late to a London Hotel, went to the room, walked in on someone else in bed half asleep! Shock. I always chain the door now in hotels after that! They'd assigned me the wrong room and key

PaddingtonBearHardStare · 11/09/2019 01:48

That's the reason I always check these doors!

DH is feeding 5 week old DS, we both stay awake so the other doesn't nod off mid feed

grandmasterstitch · 11/09/2019 02:19

I've never had an adjoining door. Not sure I would want one now! I'm awake because DS has decided sleep is for the weak so we're watching peppa pig while I count down the hours until work Brew

user764329056 · 11/09/2019 02:23

Hello fellow owls, my natural rhythm would be sleep all day, awake all night but that doesn’t fit very well with society norms unfortunately! I just love the stillness at night, the fact that nobody is making any demands on me and I can kid myself that I am putting off tomorrow as long as possible!

TimeForNewStart · 11/09/2019 02:28

@user764329056 me too.

As soon as I am off work I start to go to sleep at 6 or 7am. Can’t help it. Wish I were an early bird, they are considered virtuous etc!

I have read that it is good for traditional societies that people have different sleep patterns as it means there is always someone awake and alert to danger.
