Kids smart watch trackers?

I was thinking of buying one for my 8 year old, just to keep track of in case he gets lost and also for when he's a bit older walking to school.

I thought gator watch sounded good. But then I saw that an investigation found the security could be hacked so other people could track the child's location. It seems like this fault has been fixed. Does anyone have any experience or know any more about this?

I contacted the company and it was fixed back in 2017 and in fact now it is one of the safest watches out there. They are very open to discussing the security whereas some company’s I spoke to avoided the subject
