Ibuprofen shortage

Hi

Noticed in my local sainsburys and tesco that the ibuprofen shelfs are all empty apart from ibuprofen caplets
Wondered why this was?!

I've just googled - all the hits about paracetamol shortages dated from January this year, or earlier, or were non-UK.

So it seem this may well be one of the (many) blips in supply, which happen all the time for both OTC and prescription drugs.

Agree with the Times analysis that these are becoming (slightly) more frequent because of the global commodity approach.

Maryann1975 · 10/09/2019 09:49

I couldn’t get any in Tesco or Aldi In the past couple of weeks.

CactusAndCacti · 10/09/2019 10:16

Maybe it is a normal dip in supply, but then people are not stockpiling as such but buying an extra box, just in case. Stocks would quickly run down.

No Ibuprofen in shops near me either. There is Neurofen but not the cheaper, 45p generic brands.
Plenty of paracetamol though.

unicornsrule · 10/09/2019 11:19

Also couldn't buy own brand immodium

Plenty of both where I live. Don't blame the shops, blame the idiots stockpiling.

Megan2018 · 10/09/2019 11:26

Full shelves here! I bought a stock of paracetamol and ibuprofen yesterday (cheap generic stuff)

Funghi · 10/09/2019 11:30

Because a lot of MNers are stockpiling.

Megan2018 · 10/09/2019 11:41

My stock is not for Brexit btw-its because I give birth this week!

lilypips · 10/09/2019 11:46

Because a lot of MNers are stockpiling.

This ^

Someone posted not so long ago about paracetamol shortage.

The complaint was that they were trying to buy some extra 'just in case' and there were none.

The poster couldn't understand the reason there were none was because of everyone else buying them 'just in case'

Madfrogs · 10/09/2019 12:20

B&m, wilko, QD and Tesco all sold out of the cheaper ibuprofen here.

How many people will now go and buy some on the strength of this thread?
