How do I ask for a pay rise at work?

I'm in quite a low paid job (medical secretary for anyone who's interested). There used to be 4 of us on the team but over the course of a month the other 3 all left leaving me on my own. I spent 2 weeks trying to cover the workload whilst hastily showing the very basic ropes to another member of staff from another team; then I went on holiday for a week (holiday was booked and I couldn't cancel).

On my return another secretary had been recruited and I've been training her. She had a lot of experience so it was mainly showing her 'our' way of doing things. Another secretary is due to start at the end of the month, less experienced than the first one.

Now here's the thing, I saw the adverts for these jobs and they were advertising the same rate that I'm on. Given that I'm responsible for training these people should I be on a higher hourly rate? And how do I ask for it? Or should I suck it up?
