Passport Query

Had a job interview last week & they mentioned I may need to travel overseas (which hadn't been apparent in the JD); was asked if I have current passport & I replied that I haven't at the moment.

Was told I'd need to get one but to wait until after Brexit - what would be the benefit in waiting?

Nobody knows when Brexit will be finalised, so personally I'd apply for the passport anyway - BUT only if you need one regardless. Otherwise wait to hear that you've definitely got the job (It's alot of money to spend out if you don't really need one.)
But I certainly wouldn't wait for Brexit, you could be waiting ages.
Good luck with the job! 👍

Yeah, I didn't know if I was missing something glaringly obvious when they said wait until after Brexit but was thinking to myself 'who knows when that will be?!'

Have you got the job?

They may be suspending oversea trips until October 31st. We won't be getting another date after that, so we will know what is happening and how it will effect business etc on that date.

PassportQuery · 09/09/2019 16:44

I haven't heard yet but have had a call from them today which I missed.

Am not entirely sure I want the job, so haven't called back... 🤨

If a job description can "forget" to mention little things like having to leave the country on business, I really would be asking myself what else they "forgot" to mention ? Like who is going to pay for tickets, accommodation etc ?

Also, which countries ? If it's outside the EU some countries may need visas and even then may not allow entry depending on who you are and where you've been before.

PassportQuery · 09/09/2019 17:02

Yep, it all seemed a bit vague & I just have a weird sense of unease with it. Maybe it's because I'm a bit of an overthinker & like everything laid out but I do know I'm not 100% sold on this job.

Is your professional speciality understatement ?

If it t'were I, you wouldn't see me for dust. There may be many explanations for the state of affairs, but none of them are any reason for confidence.

PassportQuery · 09/09/2019 17:26

Lol at professional speciality understatement! Grin

To be fair, I know the job is legit because of the location etc; it's more the organisation of the job that bothers me. It's new to this location but an established company.

Not for long, with admin skills like that.

Haha.

Pre Brexit - uk european passport
post Brexit - uk passport

Who knows how different countries are going to treat our passports/visas etc.

We may need visas where we previously haven't or vice versa

Some countries may not accept a european/uk passport once we are not part of the eu. Who knows. the politicians

New passports issued no longer say European Union on them already- clearly planning for Brexit!

DonnaLee8 · 09/09/2019 20:59

My passport ran out in June so I applied online for a renewal.
Six days later my new passport arrived -still the EU passport colour 👍 but no longer stating European Union 😭
