DH in surgery- keep me company.

Very small malignant tumour in DH's kidney discovered totally by accident a few months ago. Very lucky it was discovered as 5 years further down the line when symptoms become apparent, cure is much more difficult.

DH (53) currently having robotic keyhole partial nephrectomy surgery to remove the tumour. Not ill at all. Surgeon very confident the surgery will get rid of it. Surgeon is top guy in the country for this type of procedure so DH hopefully in good hands:🤞

I haven't slept properly for 2 months. He is inclined to depression and feelings of impending doom which although I understand, makes it really hard for me.

I haven’t really had anyone to talk to about it and obviously can’t make my fears to him known as he is freaked out enough as it is.

I have between 4 and 5 hours to kill. Someone distract me.

Sending hugs and hope xxxx Read a thread from classics?

PurpleWithRed · 09/09/2019 09:01

I would suggest you listen to the Brexitcast podcasts but that wouldn't exactly be cheering.

Are you in touch with Macmillan etc?

Really fantastic news they discovered the tumor so early - weirdly there was a car crash outside our house and the chap with the very broken leg was found to have the very early stages of a cancer in his bladder. Made a full recovery (well his leg's never been quite the same but he's very cheerful down the pub).

My new kitten Haribo. He's 11 weeks old.

Do you have children or is it just you two ?

BrigitsBigKnickers · 09/09/2019 09:07

We have two DDs 21 and 23. Yes good idea about looking at a classic thread- they often make me chuckle!

WRVS ladies /gents may be round with a trolley soon .
It is hard keeping all that worry in .
Is there a bookshop / newsagent in the hospital?

I took a book.

BrigitsBigKnickers · 09/09/2019 09:09

We haven't had any contact with MacMillan no. DH isn't really one to talk about stuff like this.

It's been such a shock. He is fit, healthy, eats well. Been really unlucky this year as also has a problem with the disks in his neck.

There is a nice thread of "last pic you took"
Think it is on AIBU.

BrigitsBigKnickers · 09/09/2019 09:11

St least it is found and it is small. As you wrote, lucky found now and not 5 years from now.
Do you work?
Are your children students or working?
What do they do ?
Where do you like to go on holiday?

AnneKipanki · 09/09/2019 09:25

The weather is rubbish where I am too .

AnneKipanki · 09/09/2019 09:25

I had hoped to go into garden and tidy up the weeds .

AnneKipanki · 09/09/2019 09:28

Hope the breakfast is nice !

BrigitsBigKnickers · 09/09/2019 09:33

Yes I do work- I am a specialist teacher which I love. Got the day off today ( hopefully paid- my boss said something about working an extra day or swapping one which I am not very impressed with- I would have thought that at least one day off should be given off for a DH's major cancer surgery...) Hoping to do a bit tomorrow and weds morning and he is due out weds pm or Thursday am. I only work Mon-Weds so can be around for him when he gets out without any more time off.

My eldest DD works having graduated last year and the younger one has been in the states working over the summer. Now looking for temp work and hoping to go to uni next year.

Holidays are usually in Portugal as we have a place there- love it there. Managed to get out there for a while over the summer but didn't really enjoy it much with this looming.

Anne breakfast was a rather sorry looking pan au chocolate but the tea was fairly decent. Off out for a walk in a min. Cloudy but not raining.
3 hours to go if all well. Tick tick!

I like walking too . I hope your DD finds a temp job .
There is also a good thread ( I am on it ) that is garden related . It is mainly photos but I find it very calming.
Can't remember the name of it ....

AnneKipanki · 09/09/2019 09:42

It is in Gardening and is called "Can we have a thread of pictures "
Obviously!!!!

AnneKipanki · 09/09/2019 09:59

I have never been to Portugal. Perhaps the next time you go you will have a better time .
That is good that DD1 has a job . My niece took a year to get a job . She starts in October for the BBC so it is all good.

Does your other DD know where she wants to go ? Has she visited the university? Has she applied?

When you say "specialist " is that for a certain subject or SEN ? It is fantastic that you love your job.

Portugal is just beautiful- lovely weather, gorgeous beaches, not too hot, nice people and fab food!

DD2 wants to go to drama school- already done a foundation year. Knows where she wants to go but it's all very competitive- she has a back up plan so if it doesn't work out this year she will go down that road. Already has very good A level grades so would easily get a uni place.

DD1 was very lucky with her job- she worked her socks off at uni and got a really good job in an area that interested her within a few months of graduating. She is about to take a sabbatical and do a masters continuing to work part time for her company.

Yes I am a peri teacher for a particular area of SEN - not all of my caseload are SEN but need understanding and knowledge from teachers/ parents so they can develop well and access the curriculum. Also do home visits and play with babies which is my favourite part of the job!

Love your MN name by the way!

OP posts:
AnneKipanki · 09/09/2019 10:17

Thanks Brigit
It is so hard choosing a name . You type one in and it is already taken. Then you are put on the spot and have to come up with something. Argh !
Fortunately this was acceptable.

AnneKipanki · 09/09/2019 10:20

Drama can be a very difficult field.
It sounds great for DD1 . The firm must be very good allowing part time for Masters .

AnneKipanki · 09/09/2019 10:22

Do you plan to go out to Portugal in October or Christmas?
