I bought a Waterpik

How hard can this be. I've flooded the bathroom and myself, accidentally blasted up my nose and squirted it down my throat which made me gag. All this is after watching a you tube video, which made it look like a breeze.

I tell you what though, it's an excellent piece of kit for cleaning around the taps Grin

Close your lips round it, turn off when mouth full and spit out, then continue. There is a knack to it, but easy when you know how! I had one for years which stopped working, bought another that broke after a few months, so bought a cheaper copy, so far, so good!

TroubleTroubleTrouble · 08/09/2019 11:06

Thanks @NanTheWiser

I've been reading reviews and there definitely seems to be a knack to it. I will just continue practicing. I think that in the shower would be a good place until I get to grips with it.

Yes you need to keep your mouth shut. Grin

I love mine. I too had a bit of trouble to begin with, but if you close your lips around it and tilt your head to one side that helps things.

Once you have got the hang of it you will find it strangely satisfying!

MistyMinge2 · 08/09/2019 11:08

Off to Google Waterpik as I haven't a clue what you're on about

YesQueen · 08/09/2019 11:09

I love mine now I'm used to it! Makes my mouth feel really clean

Sparklingbrook · 08/09/2019 11:10

This is mine.

20viona · 08/09/2019 11:15

We recommend people to use it in the shower as it's so damn messy!

TroubleTroubleTrouble · 08/09/2019 12:34

I've been watching more you tube videos and I just need to practise. It looks so controlled in the videos Grin

I've got make up on now so I can't practise until I take it off tonight.

Oooh didn’t know to keep mouth closed - I have to lean right into the sink , and the first few times actually over the bath.

TroubleTroubleTrouble · 08/09/2019 12:44

@cubed123 yes, in the videos that I've watched they have a closed mouth and the water just gently dribbles out. More like a water slide with me though!

Floralnomad · 08/09/2019 12:49

I’ve got a Phillips one and I’ve never had an issue with mess you just keep your mouth shut .

Sparklingbrook · 08/09/2019 12:51

I keep my mouth shut, tilt my head and sort of let the water trickle out of one side over the sink.
You can't see the results properly in the shower. Grin

GeorginaPilot · 08/09/2019 12:52

I have one and never thought of cleaning around the taps! 👏

Sparklingbrook · 08/09/2019 13:09

It's also excellent for waking up teenagers. Wink

picklemepopcorn · 08/09/2019 13:44

Just been on amazon...

Any recommendations among the less well known brands? There's a good looking deal, but I'm suspicious it's not real.

TroubleTroubleTrouble · 08/09/2019 15:33

@GeorginaPilot I'm going to try it on the tile grout next Grin

thank you for this post. I have had mine, still unused in its box, for 6 months now as I was too nervous to start using it. I am inspired!

Sparklingbrook · 08/09/2019 15:50

I do use luke warm water. It's quite unpleasant with cold water.

TroubleTroubleTrouble · 08/09/2019 16:13

@Sparklingbrook I'm going to try warm water. I used cold, it was such a shock!

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 08/09/2019 16:22

Yes, cold water is horrible. You can also add a bit of mouthwash.

AuntieMarys · 08/09/2019 16:23

I have a Philips one. I love it. But yes, keep your mouth shut!

TroubleTroubleTrouble · 08/09/2019 16:56

Those of you that use a water flosser, do you find that you still have to floss with mini brushes and tape, or is the water flosser enough?

NanTheWiser · 08/09/2019 17:01

@picklemepopcorn, I bought this one, Apiker. It's very similar to the Waterpik, and works just as well, at a fraction of the price. How long it will last, who knows?

picklemepopcorn · 08/09/2019 17:42

Thank you NaN! Looks good!
