Open plan office or small office?

I'm starting a new job and when I had a tour of where I would be working etc I was horrified to see that it will just be 3 of us in an office! My current job is open plan with lots of people coming in and out, passing through. I think I'm going to hate it!

Which do you prefer?

I have real trouble filtering general hubub so Im better in a small office. Although you dont get the same relationship with the wider team.

I can just imagine it all being soooo quiet where you can hear the drop of a pin!

Everyone hearing your conversations with others and on the phone. No privacy. Ugh.

Please tell me it's nice.

Small offices with just 3 people can be just a bit too intimate, you've got to hope you get on with them and neither of them have any annoying habits that would normally go unnoticed in a bigger open plan.

But surely you don't have privacy and can hear other conversations in an open plan office with lots of comings and goings? What's the difference, it sounds like a small version of an open plan office.

I'll let you know...!
I've just moved to an office with 3 other people in as we're having a big refurbishment to an open plan office (I was previously in an office by myself) so I am dreading both scenarios, plus the woman I'm sat opposite waffles a lot - can't wait for tomorrow Hmm

MissCalamity I guess you will already know your colleagues so I guess that should help, no?

If you are in an office of 3 and two people are talking, or one person is on the phone it is hard not to listen/get distracted by their conversation, whereas if you are in an office of 30, there will be lots of people talking at any one time and it is just part of the background noise which you tune out.

@Wrangle yes, which does help.
All of them have their quirks & I know I probably do things that grate on people's nerves I seem to have excess air, so will sigh a lot without me realising
It depends how big our new super duper open plan office will be, but at this moment in time I think the open plan office would probably win!

I prefer smaller offices.
