If like me it’s on your bucket list to see the northern lights and if like me it may never happen for you, I thought I’d share this webcam link which I’ve been following for the last few years . It captures the lights pretty much every night over the autumn and winter season . They are very active tonight

This is lovely- is it just stills or live action (if you see what I mean!)?

Comps83 · 07/09/2019 23:49

It takes a still every 5 mins
There used to be 2 cameras but unfortunately they’ve cut it down to one
I looked into going here but it was far too complicated to get to. You can occasionally pick them up on the Shetland webcams but it’s no where near as clear as this one ,

Without wanting to sound like a kill joy having experienced the northern lights multiple times in Norway last year I can assure you that you are seeing the best of the lights in those stills you are seeing online and that in real life it looks very different, and not nearly as spectacular

Spinderellacutituponetime · 07/09/2019 23:56

We just saw them up in Scotland and I have seen them from the Yorkshire Moors too.

Comps83 · 07/09/2019 23:59

@Tryingtoslim yeah I’ve heard they look much better through a camera than the naked eye

Thanks for that link - they look stunning.

Frith2013 · 08/09/2019 00:10

I saw there from here once (Welsh Marches)

We often see them from our back windows (far north of England, overlooking the sea/borders). They're rarely very spectacular but they're eerie.

Jools911 · 08/09/2019 17:12

They can be spectacular....I've seen them on iceland and they were disappointing I've also seen them in Norway and they were fantastic. I was lucky enough to also see them in finnish lapland and they were truly the most amazing sight. Absolutely breathtakingly beautiful

Oldraver · 08/09/2019 19:17

I've only seen them once from a plane, absolutely mesmerising

HotChocolateLover · 08/09/2019 19:30

We went to Iceland last year and didn’t see them 🤦‍♀️ The three other couples we knew that went to Iceland didn’t see them either. Luck of the draw really.

Wow check out the camera tonight!
