Can anyone diagnose me please? Migraine? Neuralgia?

Or something else...
I'm rarely ill but have been off work two days so far and about to call in again.

Initially I thought I had a cold, as I've aged they tend to be in my sinuses and I get more of a head cold than a snotty normal cold.

This one felt like that but I've got pain all across one side of my jaw. Not toothache because it spans the whole jaw (top and / or bottom) My head is fuzzy and I feel very out of sorts and slow, but it's the jaw pain that's really getting to me. I've taken Sudafed and ibuprofen with little effect Confused

It could be TMJ. I suffer with this on and off and it causes all sorts of problems. It was really tricky for me finding out what it is because doctors and dentists both know very little about it. Mine is made worse by the fact that I grind my teeth at night apparently. You really have my sympathy because being in pain and not knowing what's wrong is the pits x

Migraines are normally felt around the temples, or the forehead. The pain is intense and pounding . If your pain is in your jaw it isn't a migraine.

Is it constant or spasm like attacks?

Spasms poon , like really bad toothache.
I'm assuming it's all connected to the head cold type thing?

I've had an occasional migraine in the past and thought it didn't fit the bill, but I'm not sure neuralgia does either.

When I don't have the pain I just feel rather woolly headed Hmm

Can I ask if you have any visual disturbance, pain in your temples and how old you are?

TreacherousPissFlap · 07/09/2019 07:15

No choir, I've a fuzzy head but no visual problems. I'm 41.

Thanks. Jaw pain can be caused by claudication which can be a symptom of temporal arteritis. That would require urgent intervention but your symptoms don't fit the bill thankfully. Hope you feel better soon.

cormorantyes · 07/09/2019 07:26

shingles?

Coffeeandchocolate9 · 07/09/2019 07:29

I can't diagnose you but often pain like that is better for heat - try a hot wheatbag/hot water bottle/hot flannel.

Migraine symptoms do vary but I haven't heard of them like yours.

TreacherousPissFlap · 07/09/2019 07:45

I actually feel rabid with the pain when it's throbbing. I'm not sure whether I should get a GP appointment or something

I had a friend sadly now passed but she suffered with migraines and had pain in her jaw sometimes covering the whole side of her face. I get migraines including the aura and whilst they usually affect the right side of my head the pain sometimes does spread down my cheekbones.

NoIsACompleteAnswerSometimes · 07/09/2019 14:39

Sounds like neuralgia to me. I get that sometimes when I have a cold/sinus type thing. You're fine until your top and bottom teeth touch? Nothing for ages then a seering pain across the side of your face? That's what I had.

Strongest painkillers I could get, not eating on that side of my mouth if poss helped a bit, but it was just waiting til it went. I do feel for you, the last bout I had has left permanent nerve damage in one side of my face.

DaveMinion · 07/09/2019 15:25

Could be an ear infection. Ear pain sometimes presents as toothache/jaw pain for me. I get them quite a lot.

Dizzywizz · 07/09/2019 16:20

Could be trigeminal neuralgia - that is very intense jaw pain. I sometimes get it as part of ms. When you have it on it’s own, it’s also known as the suicide disease. You need special meds for nerve pain which would need a dr app as you can get them over the counter. Until you can get to a dr, try co-codomol

Goodness dizzy , I thought the definition of shingles I read was bad Shock
