What would you do? Vinyl/lino or carpet?

We have a combined living room and dining room, we are replacing our veryy cheap carpet soon and wondering if it may be better to get vinyl as it'll be easier to keep clean with small children?
Laminate is unfortunately too expensive for us at the moment!

I would 100% get vinyl. I was looking at some recently and there were lovely options, many that looked exactly like a laminate floor would look but would be warmer and quieter underfoot, not to mention cheaper. I would get the best quality vinyl you can afford.

I'd go for carpet. Vinyl will be easier to keep clean but I think will look a bit weird in living room.

I'm going for Vinyl. Have seen in a friends' living room & was surprised at how great it looked. Also, I thought it was wood - I couldn't tell the difference. I've been into Carpetright had a browse at the different grades of Vinyl, all seems good. I am however worried about toxins released from Vinyl so I'm going to have a read up on that today, although I have loads of indoor plants to combat toxins somewhat

I've just googled about toxins and it'd appear they're in carpet too and only way to avoid is wooden flooring...Which I would love but can't afford. :/

I have got vinyl tiles becase the are much easier to handle and if you mess up cutting it ( like round a door frame ) you can ditch that tile or use it somewhere eles rather than ruining a load then when the time comes i plan to put the carpet down on them
