Ideas for cold toes post-surgery

DS13 had surgery for an accessory navicular on Tuesday. He's due back at school next Monday and will be wearing one of those plastic/vecro boots. However, I'm really stuck with what to put over his toes.

He's a size 13 shoe (extra wise) and struggles with socks as it is, never mind now, with a swollen foot.

Any ideas/suggestions?

When my husband wore on those I wrapped a thin scarf (a pashmina type) around his boot to keep his toes warm. Or maybe a bandana type piece of fabric would be more acceptable to a teenager.

Limbo have a toe cozy, but for something to go over his whole foot, I'd get a wellie liner - the fleece is warm but won't pull and is very roomy
