How long is first class post taking to arrive these days?

Im waiting on my new DBS to come through. Ive been tracking it online and it says it was despached on Wednesday, but the post has just been delivered and its not arrived?! I thought first class was meant to be the following day? So in theory in should have arrived yesterday...

Really worried now that its been lost in the post, and its got all my personal information on it!

Royal Mail seem to be really crap these days. We often get other peoples mail shoved through our door, or our mail gets put through our neighbours who don't even have the same name as us! Once we even had an appointment letter from the local hospital that was for someone at the other end of the street. Not even the same name as either! It never used to happen before our old school postie retired! Its like they cant be arsed to do their job properly.

First class is USUALLY next working day but it isn't guaranteed. I posted something by first class signed for on Friday 23rd August and it got there the following Thursday. Royal Mail blamed the bank holiday weekend but it still took four working days if you include the Saturday and exclude the bank hol Monday. They sent me a book for 6 first class stamps as 'compensation'.

Well Im still waiting for my DBS! It was fucking posted last Wednesday for Christ's sake! Where the hell is it?! Is it worth raising this with the RM? Our post has been really weird lately, today we've had 2nd class mail only one of which was apparently sent out last Tuesday. Now I know 2nd class posts takes longer, but over a week?

It usually comes the next day. But when you are waiting for something urgently it ALWAYS takes longer. I'd expect it on Wednesday and if it comes tomorrow you'll be pleasantly surprised. It is annoying, I don't know what happens to some letters.

Ive looked online and they say it can take up to 14 days from despatch to arrive, but I've never known it take this loing before. I suppose they are busy at this time of year and there is backlog, but its still concerning.

'Despatched = complete and prepared for posting
Actual posting - may well be done in batches a few days later.

Ask your postman ( woman)? I asked mine about something that said it was on its way and he found out for me it had gone to the wrong mail centre so he got it sent to the right one and I got it next day. Helps if you have the tracking number. But we live very rurally and I know my postman

We seem to have a different postman/woman every single day here. So cant really ask, as I doubt they'd know.

Ive just found out that DBS certificates arent always sent first class though, which is interesting as I'd assumed that they were.
