Cat muzzles are no worse than dog muzzles. They stop you losing fingers (I'd rather be bitten by a dog than a cat any day of the week). It stops them biting and covers their eyes to calm them down. Works well with a cat bag for minimal restraint for the ferocious feline who doesn't want to be touched

Terftalk, veterinary practices use cat bags and cat muzzles on stressed cats. It's a perfectly acceptable form of restraint.
If you physically hold a cat you can get bitten or scratched (cat scratch fever is a real risk) and they actually find the bag and muzzle better than a sweaty human gripping them. When restrained the medicine/treatment can be administered smoothly and quickly and is less stressful. Neither are used for more than a few minutes.

@TerfTalk what @Itsallgonewoowoo said. A lot of cats when stressed do not tolerate handling well. Using a hands off restraint makes the whole thing a lot less stressful for them. They're obviously only used when necessary (blood sampling, placing IV lines etc.) and is a far preferable method to sedating what is often a sick cat.

Cat bites definitely require antibiotics and I've seen several colleagues need hospital treatment and even surgery to deal with the infections resulting from cat bites.

I stay away from the bitey end as much as possible.

Cats will often quickly calm when their eyes are covered. It can help get them in to a cat box for emergency vet treatment or to keep both the cat and the vet/handler safe while administering it. Bag a similar thing. Same way a vet might put a blindfold on to a horse to get them in to a treatment room or a weighted blanket to get them in to the stocks for a standing surgery.
