What do you use as an alarm clock?

Smartphone, radio clock, or the old-fashioned kind with bells on top? Or are such things unnecessary in your house with children running about?

I usually use my iPhone, on the other side of the room. (As a child, I remember being scared of alarm clocks, especially traditional wind-up ones - the menacing ticking, the numbers glowing in the dark, and of course the alarm itself.)

Small travel battery alarm clock.

I use my old mobile as an alarm clock. At weekends, the cat is good at getting me up early.

Smart lights that come on very gradually - nice and gentle! (Then the radio, then watch vibration, then phone makes birdsong, but usually the lights are enough!)

Highly recommend the lights

Lumie in winter. DAB radio alarm all year round - it has multiple alarms and day configurations so I don't need to keep changing or resetting it - I just select the alarm number I need for that day.

happypotamus · 05/09/2019 18:31

My phone.
On work days I set the alarm on a radio alarm clock (it's probably from 1980 something, inherited from a relative, radio bit doesn't work) on the other side of the room to make sure I get out of bed and don't just fall back to sleep after turning my phone alarm off.

Phone first, then my kindle 5 minutes later(I am paranoid about one of them failing!). Dh and I always wake the other up if for some reason they don't get up(doesn't happen very often).

My fitbit - two alarms 30 mins apart which vibrate.

milliefiori · 05/09/2019 18:38

Cat then DH's phone set to alarm mode. If DH isn't around I just rely on cat. Never fails.

EntirelyAnonymised · 05/09/2019 18:39

Radio alarm, one each either side of the bed.

RezCowgirl · 05/09/2019 18:40

Lumie

EleanorReally · 05/09/2019 18:42

AMidsummersNightsNightmare · 05/09/2019 18:43

My phone, but my DS2 is usually already awake

Ffsnosexallowed · 05/09/2019 18:43

Radio alarm clock - set to buzz because I don't really know how it works.

TheBabyAteMyBrain · 05/09/2019 18:44

Baby, toddler, husband or husbands phone usually. Rarely a little travel alarm clock I've had since I was wee.

Radio alarm clock, set for half an hour before I need to get up so I can have a couple of snoozes, although I nearly always wake 1/2 an hour before that. Use my phone as a backup (in case of power cuts) if there's something really important or early to get up for, such as catching a flight.

MitziK · 05/09/2019 19:01

Sunrise clock backed up by phone alarms. I've started waking up as the light comes on, about half an hour before it starts tweeting at me.

Seeing as I'm now waking up at 5.45am when I'd normally be dead to the world until 9.30 if left to my own devices, would regularly sleep through all alarms and have never been a 'morning person', it's got to be the gradual brightening that's doing this.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/09/2019 19:04

I enlisted a 40 year old man to lay next to me all night and tell me when it's time to get up. I've grown rather fond of him after 10 years, which is a shame as I don't really need him anymore as I wake naturally most mornings at around 6am.

Bluebellbike · 05/09/2019 19:07

I used to only use my digital radio alarm but after a power cut in the night stopped it going off I now use it together with a battery powered travel alarm. Set a few minutes apart.

QuestionableMouse · 05/09/2019 19:07

My phone. It vibrates which is much less jarring than a screaming alarm.

Expressedways · 05/09/2019 19:07

The toddler. She’s always up around 7.15 and our morning schedules rarely require more precision. If one of us is travelling and has an early flight we set an alarm on our phone.

TeenPlusTwenties · 05/09/2019 19:10

A small battery analogue alarm clock.
My phone is off overnight.

CreatedBySombra · 05/09/2019 19:12

I use my smart watch. It's been a game changer being gently woken by a vibration on my wrist is so much better than my clock radio alarm.

TheJoxter · 05/09/2019 19:16

Phone at 6.30
Kids won’t wake til 7.30/8ish so can’t rely on them (plus it’s nice to shower before they wake up)
