I will never drink instant coffee again!

Just wanted to share my joy as I am feeling super excited that I’ve taught myself how to make a proper coffee at home from ground coffee beans with frothy milk on top! It’s so delicious and tastes like I’m out for coffee! And to think I’ve been drinking instant coffee for over 20 years not realising how easily you can make your own! Next step is to teach myself some fancy coffee art Grin

How did you do it OP?! Grin please share.

Recently I haven't been enjoying coffee as it doesn't taste nice

ThisHereMamaBear · 05/09/2019 18:28

Please do tell!

I have a bean to cup machine, I won’t even drink ready ground coffee, proud coffee snob!

Ironfloor269 · 05/09/2019 18:51

Please spill the (coffee) beans, OP. How DID you make this holy grail of coffee?

I also have a bean to cup machine but the coffee from that tastes more sour and a tad weaker than the coffee I make in my cafetier. Where am I going wrong?

AgeLikeWine · 05/09/2019 18:57

I use a Krups burr grinder and a stainless steel cafetière. Perfect coffee every time. I don’t drink instant, either at home or at work.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/09/2019 19:01

My cheapie cafetière makes the nicest coffee, but it is really all about finding the right brand and strength of beans. I am really enjoying an Aldi one at the moment. Frothy milk though? I'd love a milk frother! Do they work on soy milk?

Phycadelicsilhouette · 05/09/2019 19:04

Definitely no (where near!) an expert but I made the coffee in a moka pot (had it for ages but never knew how to use it Blush) and then heated milk and frothed it in a french press, absolutely delicious!
I love coffee so much and have always drank instant coffee at home but never again after this discovery!
I think I’ll invest in a bean grinder next Grin

French press has made perfect frothy milk @thenewaveragebear1983! And I’m not sure about the soy milk, I’ve not tried it but when I was off dairy then I found almond milk to be the best for coffee when I was out.

Agree with others that it's finding the coffee bean you like that can be the difficult bit. I grind beans and make Cowboy coffee, I faffed about with various machines and cafetier over the years and finally settled on my favourite way. Put ground beans in large heatproof jug and pour boiled water over stir and leave for 5 mins and pour through a tea strainer.

MoobaaMoobaa · 05/09/2019 19:37

I might buy a little moka pot.

my parents had percolate. I just googled the difference between a percolate and a moka pot.
a moka pot makes expresso and percolate makes straight coffee.
Now we all know Grin

Phycadelicsilhouette · 05/09/2019 20:56

@AcarinaTeaBag I never thought to make coffee that way! Simple but effective!
@MoobaaMoobaa I’d highly recommend it! Much better than any other gadgets I’ve tried!

By French press do you mean cafetière? How do you froth milk in that then? I've actually got a small
One I don't use.

Every day is a school day on here!

Phycadelicsilhouette · 05/09/2019 22:33

Yes same thing @thenewaveragebear1983, just heat your milk and then use cafetière to froth by pulling and pushing it instead of one push down like you’d do for coffee. Works perfectly!

It’s something new for me too, YouTubed it to learn!

I love cheapo coffee and the phrase 'bean to cup' makes me die inside.

I am all wrong on this thread Grin

BeepBeeeep · 05/09/2019 23:05

I only drink coffee (numerous cups a day ) and I loathe instant coffee.
I make mine in a glass coffee pot, which has a metal mesh tube in the middle which you put the coffee into and then fill with boiled water.
I use Jamaican blue mountain beans and grind them myself.
Drank black, strong and unsweetened.
I take a thermal flask of it to work.
I don't drink coffee out, I dislike bought coffee. It's too weak and often cheap stuff.

MargotLovedTom1 · 05/09/2019 23:14

I couldn't be faffed with washing a cafetiere and its plunger after use every time I want a coffee. I use a handheld £1 milk frother I got from Ikea. I make some black coffee (using good quality instant, the type in tins) in a milk jug. Heat up some milk in a mug in the microwave, froth the milk, then pour in the coffee. Love it.

BogglesGoggles · 05/09/2019 23:16

@MargotLovedTom1 I just whack mine in the dishwasher.

I might want another coffee by the time the dishwasher has filled up and then been run though!
