Baby's eye colour

If your baby was born with dark eyes like this what colour did they end up?

DD's eyes were dark almost colourless when she was born. They've lightened up to a navy blue and are still on the change. She was born with brown hair, which is now growing through as sandy with a shock of red at the front.

My older DS is blonde with blue eyes, both me and DH have grey blue eyes but we have a mixture of blue, brown and green across grandparents and uncles.

I'm just impatient to find out what she'll look like! She'll obviously always be her but will she have dark or light hair? Brown or green eyes? DS looked the same from day one although he had no hair it's grown into what I pictured when I imagined him. DD is much more of an enigma at three months, keeping me guessing!

Just realised a cropped picture of eyes is pretty creepy! 👻

If both parents have blue eyes then the child will have blue eyes too (though shade might be different. If one or both parents have brown eyes then the child can have blue or brown.

My DS was bluey until the age of 1 then turned light brown.

@fruitpastille that's what DH thought so he kept joking she was the postman's! After doing some reading it just depends on the melatonin development and as our families have a mix of colours she could go either way.

I was convinced she'd be on the lighter side and her eyes did start getting lighter but have seemed to change again in the last week.

DS's were a similar colour and he now has light brown/hazelly eyes, like DH's. Mine are greyish blue.

7Worfs · 05/09/2019 17:27

DS (3 months) started out with very dark blue, they now have changed to a golden brown around the pupil and dark grey on the edges. I’m thinking the end colour would be hazel 🤔 Thoughts?

Modestandatinybitsexy · 05/09/2019 17:40

@7Worfs hazel sounds about right, they sound beautiful though!

Both my DC had very dark eyes to the point I thought they were brown!! Now both very light blue Shock

Silversun83 · 05/09/2019 18:59

DD's were similar, maybe a bit lighter and at 3, hers are now grey/blue/green depending on the light. Were expecting them to turn brown as both DH and I have dark brown eyes.

And DS has very blue eyes! I know it's entirely possible but we weren't expecting two blue-eyed children.. our brown genes must be very weak! Grin

They were both also born with lots of really dark hair and DD is now dark blonde and DS a kind of strawberry blonde!

Squashpocket · 05/09/2019 19:01

Both my dc started out with dark blue eyes, like yours. They've both now lightened up to bluey green (I have green eyes, DH has blue).

I found with both of mine that their eyebrow colour at birth was a fairly good indicator of final hair colour (not exact but pretty close). Not sure if that holds true for others though

ChaoticKate · 05/09/2019 19:18

My daughter was born with eyes like that and they seem to have fixed on hazel. Mine are brown and my husbands are green so hazel makes sense!

Disfordarkchocolate · 05/09/2019 19:20

Not creepy, she's very cute.

soulrider · 05/09/2019 19:34

My niece and nephew both had eyes this colour when babies, now both definitely blue eyed

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 05/09/2019 19:36

I have brown my husband has green / brown and my son has blue eyes. He is now 15 so will not change. No idea where the blue came from

Ingurr · 05/09/2019 19:39

We are blue eyed parents with a brown eyed son. Daughter has green eyes.

legalseagull · 05/09/2019 19:50

My Dd had eyes so dark they were almost black! By the time she was around a month it was onbvious they were turning blue. My DS is almost 6 months and I genuinely wouldn't know what to call his eyes. They started blue but They have a greeny tinge so I think they're going to turn out hazel like mine.

MulticolourMophead · 05/09/2019 19:54

Not true. It is possible for two blue eyed parents to have a brown eyed child, it's just very rare. There is more than one gene that affects eye colour, and colour depends on a number of factors.

LittleGinBigGin · 05/09/2019 20:14

My dc1 was born with the most intense pale blue eyes and still has them now, they may even be paler

Dc2 had really dark blue inky coloured eyes and they went brown at about 8 weeks .

Modestandatinybitsexy · 05/09/2019 20:43

It's amazing how different siblings can be. All of my family are blonde with blue eyes, all my cousins look related. DH and his brothers each have a different hair and eye colour.

I recall my DB had grey eyes until about 10 years old, then they went hazel. Dad has one brown eye and one hazel eye, they are noticeably different in shade. I have grey-blue eyes. Mum's eyes were grey-blue too, and my grandad had the bluest eyes I've ever seen.

Bubbletrouble43 · 05/09/2019 21:16

Dd1 had eyes like that, they changed to brown at a few months old. Dd2 was born with brown eyes and dd3 born with blue , still blue at 2.5 years. Me and dp both brown eyes. Both my parents blue eyes. I think it's quite a complicated science.

ElizaPancakes · 05/09/2019 21:17

My twins had bright blue eyes from about 2 months old (I’ve just checked! Grin) DS3 has brown eyes but I can’t see when they changed as they were always dark.

Twins were strawberry blond for about a minute and now darker blond. DS3 had dark brown hair at birth and is now dirty blond.

Twins very fair and freckly while DS3 is olive skinned and very tanned at the moment!
