Why does Boris actually want an election?

Sorry for being a bit thick, but is it because he will see it as a mandate for Brexit by whatever means?
It only feels like 5 minutes since we had the last one and we are no further on, I am at a loss to understand quite what is going on.

He's a good campaigner. He enjoys the feeling of 'winning'. He's considered to have appeal to many demographics and gets praise from his party for that.

Because the remain vote will be split. Because he can oust those MP's who have defied the whip and replace them with those who will toe the line.
By laying out no deal as Tory Party line he knows that a GE is pretty much a referendum but that because the remain vote is split he can maintain power

But it would appear to me that Domestic policy is playing second fiddle to the uncertainties surrounding Brexit, so nobody would really know what they were voting for because everything is Brexit, Brexit, Brexit repeat ad nauseam

Exactly and it shouldn't be that way. Brexit should be dealt with as a separate entity. I do believe we should have a second referendum. I voted remain but even if the referendum was between a theoretical deal and no deal it would at least give the people ela choice and end this ridiculous stand-off.

Boris wants an election because Jeremy will lose (and he knows it) and he will win.

NoBaggyPants · 04/09/2019 19:20

Brexit Party, he wants them to win seats to bolster his far right government.

I agree with PP that Brexit is overshadowing domestic issues, and has done for too long now.

Regarding the withdrawal of the whip from rebels, he's just making himself look a tit isn't he, I mean Ken Clarke, really?
Whatever your political affiliation, trying to oust figures like him is just bonkers.

Nicholas Soames being excommunicated (!!)

Declaring that his grand old party is going thru a 'phrase' of extremism. Eek.

I loved this comment from some of the dewhipped Tories "It's a bit rich of people who repeatedly voted against the govt " (they mean against May's WA) "to be calling me a traitor."
