Sign up for the Oxfam pledge to buy no new clothes in September.

If you manage to get through September easily, consider extending the idea till the end of the year.

If possible shop for food in the evening to take advantage of reduced supermarket prices.

Change from premium brands to supermarket own brand or economy range.

Stop buying coffee from the likes of Costa.

Stop buying bottled water.

WOrk our what you spend your money on and add it up.
Leave purse at home.
Don’t buy anything at the time. Go back another day if you still think it’s worthwhile

Thanks so far... I’ve really restricted myself this year with buying new clothes :-) Great tips... more are welcome!

Roll on deodorants rather than sprays. Last forever!
Meal plan around what you have in the kitchen already.
Take a bottle of water everywhere and convince yourself you dont need a take away coffee.

Buy frozen rather fresh if possible. Use Lidl or Aldi for as much stuff as possible (except baked beans). If you know how, turn down the hot water on the boiler by 10 degrees. Costa, Starbucks et al: one latte and a biscotti costs as much as a home cooked meal for 6. When driving, lift off so you roll up to junctions, roundabouts and traffic lights rather than brake at the last moment.
