So there you have it. Decanted a (cheapo) bottle of Fino sherry into decanter last night, ready for the annual invasion of sherry swigging neighbours from 12 onwards today.

Can't get the bloody stopper out.

WTF do i doooooo?

Make it hotter or colder than it is. Put it in the fridge, or, heat with a hairdryer.

I just can't remember which way round it is. One of these methods is definitely correct.

Try submerging in hot water for 5 mins. That should help - if no luck, try for another 5 minutes.

If still no joy you may need to - lightly - tap the side of the neck where it is stuck. I am told that using something like an electric razor to gently bash it, can sometimes work...but haven't tried that myself.

Good luck!

Would a teeny tiny drop of olive oil help?

Katinski · 03/09/2019 11:54

Thanks all. I'll work my way down your list...
Thanks again.Smile

Ooo what is this annual neighbour sherry fest? I want to come!

Katinski · 03/09/2019 12:01

RIGHT! Tried the boiling water thing first. Bit of a tug and twist and it came free!
Now then, as I was holding it at the top of the neck, anyone know where I've put my plasters? I've run my fingers under cold water...

I read that as the annual invasion of sherry swinging neighbours 😂

Sorry I have absolutely nothing helpful to add, apart from I hope you sort the decanter problem, and have a fab day 😁

Gazelda · 03/09/2019 12:07

I'd love to live in a community that has a sherry gathering on the first Tuesday in September!
What other local rituals do you have OP? Will await your answer after the sherry swingers have left after the soirée.

Rubicon80 · 03/09/2019 12:11

Fino should be served cold and the bottle should be newly opened when you serve it. It shouldn't be decanted ahead of time.

Hope you got it open anyway!

So when's the annual invasion of the gin swigging Mumsnetters neighbours? Wink

Katinski · 03/09/2019 15:34

Well, the neighbours have gone unsteadily on their giggling way, well, except for my 90yr old whisky guzzling one who lives next door She brought her own Bottle of Bells and took the rest of it home.Poor thing, she's just come out of hospital after inexplicably falling over in hers a couple of days ago, resulting in a hairline fracture of one arm....could happen to us allWink
I LOVE MY NEW NEIGHBOURS!Star ...
My next Open House will be just before Christmas but, as a gardener, I've already sown the seeds for a Halloween party and watered them well with ginWink
My US family and friends LOVED their Halloween parties! The mums and dads would drop the kids off at the top of the drive and aimed to scare the sh*t out of the children as they walked down the dark tree shrouded drives to the lighted houses, with pop-up skeletons etc.Grin
but, for me, time to zzzzzzzz...
And roll on Christmas![santa]

Thanks again everyone for averting my sherry crisisHalo

Gazelda · 03/09/2019 15:57
